Gary Rogers

Postby Ezeikial » Wed Mar 14, 2018 1:09 pm

Gary Rogers is due to make his 500th league appearance on Friday night, which will take him into the top 10 all-time appearances list headed by Al Finucane.

An outstanding achievement by a player who remains at the top of his game.

Congratulations in advance, Gary!

Here here, this is indeed a fabulous achievement, many congratulations Gary. On a personal level, a nice guy as well, always approachable & willing to have a chat whenever I was in his company. Wishing Gary continued success.

That's a very impressive achievement, as is his clean sheet record, well done Gary.

I never knew he was a nephew of former player Liam Devine, he was the guy who equalised against Linfield in the infamous battle of Oriel in the European season of 1979. James Rogers from the Argus wrote an article in league of Ireland site I think. Its remarkable really that Gary then played in the other European Odessy season we had in 2016 to go even one better than his uncle.

Last season was his best season for us. I honestly would have been glad to see someone else come in following some of his performances in 2016 but I'm delighted we kept him as he was one of our most consistent performers last season and has continued that into this season

What a way to mark this 500 milestone - equally the league clean sheet record!

A sixth clean sheet in a row last night for @1garyrogers to equal the league record for the most at the start of a season. Ironically the last time Dundalk managed it was the year he was born in 1981. Hopefully a good omen the club went on to win the title in that 81/82 season

Also from James Rogers - another interesting snippet about Gary Rogers

Rogers had previously kept five clean sheets in a row twice for the club in 2015 and 2016. The clean sheets at the start of the season in 2015 were ended in stoppage time of the sixth game when Paul O'Conor scored for Limerick so a stoppage time winner last night was fitting

I don't know how accurate this is (Jim Murphy are you there?), but the clean sheet ratio for Gary Rogers is phenomenal:

Tom O'Connor
@boscoisalive
Last night was @1garyrogers 95th league game for Dundalk.
He's now kept a clean sheet on his:

55th
60th

League appearances for the club.
52 clean sheets in total.
