Re: SWAI Player of the Month awards 2018
Chris Shields and Michael Duffy finish second and third respectively to SWAI July winner Gavin Bazunu.
It was predictable that the 16 year old would attract the most votes from soccer writers even if he only played 3 matches in July - saving a penalty against Cork and playing in both Europa League games against AIK; Alan Mannus taking over for the last two league games in July

Michael Duffy gets another nomination. Chris Shields gets a deserved nomination

Change position. Most people don't or can't appreciate what a player like Shields does. Goals and Assists wins games as they say, same with awardsoldfogey wrote:What does Chris Shields have to do to win this?

Re: SWAI Player of the Month awards 2018
It doesn't automatically follow that the best player in any given month wins the award - journalists have a keen sense of what makes a good narrative and therefore this has a big impact.
Mark McNulty (saving a penalty in the cup final shoot out)Gavin Bazunu (making an impact as a 16 year old attracting cross-channel club), Graham Burke (call up/scoring for Rep of Ireland) are some examples off the top of the head.

Re: SWAI Player of the Month awards 2018
Presumably Chris Shields is a shoo-in for the September SWAI award?

Congratulations to the Player of the Month nominees for September, who are Brian Gartland (Dundalk), Chris Shields (Dundalk), Daniel Kelly (Bohemians), Darragh Leahy (Bohemians), Greg Sloggett (UCD) and Sander Puri (Waterford).

Re: SWAI Player of the Month awards 2018
Kelly and the hunt for his signature here and in England, with his 2 goals v Cork added to the rags to riches story from Daniel might swing it away from Chrs Shields again although his performance in Cork alone makes him the standout performer.

Re: SWAI Player of the Month awards 2018
Congrats to Patrick McEleney on winning SWAI Player of the month for October/November. Presumably just for the cup final goal. That takes Dundalk FC to 6 PoTM awards this season.

The RTE interview with Patrick McEleney following his November POTM is largely focused on his views on Stephen Kenny
Well done on winning the award Patrick
