Impressive win and sounded like a very encouraging performance, all good to hear.
Another clean sheet is a step in a right direction, we just need to keep on winning games and see where that takes us. Maybe its a bridge too far for the title, but we have to keep on trying to win as many games as possible and see where that takes us, next up is another massive game on Tuesday with the visit of Derry.

We flattered to deceive.mike wrote:Impressive win and sounded like a very encouraging performance, all good to hear.
Lackluster performance against a limited team who were down to 10 men from 20 minutes into the game
The clean sheet and 3 goals scored are small beacons of satisfaction in an otherwise thoroughly depressing performance.mike wrote:

If we were on fire, catching Cork would probably still be a bridge too far; but based on tonight's performance it is a farcical whimsy.

Just lulling Cork in to a false sense of security to take the foot off the gas.......
It would have been great to hear that we were hitting some consistant good form but still winning 3-0 away while not being great in this topsy turvy league season (bar Cork) isnt the worst way to put in an average performance. Derry will be a different proposition of course but gettng points on the board in all games and especially beating teams around us to keep us in the EL spots is key now. Rovers and Bray dropping points adds to the positives especially the Bray result which was a bit of a surprise. Derry seem to have gotten their campaign going again after a tough period. If it wasnt for Corks super start there would be damn all chance of calling the league winners and relegation is wide open for a good few clubs and a couple that would have thought themselves as too 'big' to be relegated. We learned that lesson the really hard way!

Well according to Stephen Kenny he is not happy about it. He is in fact injured.boixos nois wrote:According to LOI Transfers on twitter, Mountney has been disciplined by club and could be up for transfer. What's that all about?
They will be having their solicitors looking into these false rumours.
Why would he even bother? Just say it's untrue and pathetic on the Twitter rumour starter behalf to fabricate such lies about a player who has given great service to our club and will hopefully continue to do so in the future.
Waste of energy for Kenny IMO.
Should be focusing on Derry now. This will be a real test and show if we have made any in roads on improving our lot since they best us 2-1

I say it is because his player is upset about his professional reputation being thrashed.Sneachta wrote:Well according to Stephen Kenny he is not happy about it. Does'nt help the player if Dundalk FC tweet makes no mention of Mountney's injury in the Team News prior to the game.

Re: Limerick V Dundalk | Fri 19 May | 7.45pm | Markets Field
I thought Dundalk controlled the game throughout, in fact Limerick were chasing the ball right from the start. Good team performance with Mc Millan's headed goal a peach after a wonderful cross from Duffy. The Dundalk's play appears to be work in progress with a slow & patient build up which when it results in a good chance or a goal looks class, but this style of play is by no means the finished article. Gannon's goal was created after 40 odd consecutive passes & not unlike his goal against Pats a couple of years back.
It's becoming clear the team is only now starting to come together after the loss of former players & a lengthy injury list. Derry next up & a win here, which is vital, will keep us on the right track. Added to this a victory over Pats next Friday & we are set up nicely for Cork's arrival in Oriel. But it must be one game at a time & see where we go from there. I'd say 120 travelled down to Limerick last night, fair play.
C'MON THE TOWN.

Dundalk's foot came off the pedal once the 2nd goal went in.Its hard playing against 10 you no.Although you prob wouldn't,right whinger you are.Ezeikial wrote:We flattered to deceive.mike wrote:Impressive win and sounded like a very encouraging performance, all good to hear.

Analysis here. Seems like we played very well and exploited the ten men of Limerick to near perfection. Certainly not lacklustre or disappointing....
Plus, it says a three figure passing move for Gannon's goal. Very controlled possession.

If a team is getting everyone behind the ball, It tends to be harder playing against 11, you know.Ridleys regular wrote:

Alan O'Briens tactical analysis of matches tends to very interesting and insightful. You probably noted that he thought Limerick were very poor:rummy wrote:https://tacticstruck2.com/2017/05/20/li ... es-lesson/

I thought that against 10 men for about 75 minutes we obviously had the majority of possession but spent most of the game going sideways from wing to wing (and back again). There was very little penetration and rarely did the wingers get the defense turned (one of the few exceptions was the super second goal).Ten-man Limerick handle their numerical disadvantage poorly
O’Conor’s crazy penalty-kick concession aside, ten-man Limerick were collectively very poor in slowing Dundalk’s inexorable march to victory.
I was disappointed with the performance (not the result) and thought it was lackluster. If all I had to go on was the 3-0 result and Alan O'Briens analysis I would probably think the same as you.
My opinion from seeing the match live was ...Excellent result, uninspired performance.

Re: Limerick V Dundalk | Fri 19 May | 7.45pm | Markets Field
I wouldn't be worrying about a poor in stages performance, 3-0 away from home is still an excellent return. It's very pleasing to get a consecutive clean sheets, getting the defence right is key to any side, water tight is what you want to be aiming for. I still think Gannon going straight back in will be a better option.
Interesting to note that @loitransfers tweet on mountney 'being disciplined' has been taken down now. I like him, hope he can return soon, he can add something different with a mix of mf and wing play, he hasn't been in good form this season though, but plenty of games left.
I'm looking forward to seeing the 2nd and 3rd goals v Limerick on soccer republic.
