You won't have to put up with Maguire smashing it up for Cork much longer - it's a done deal for him to come over to Preston in time for pre-season.

Cork were much more than just Maguire. The tactics and team work throughout the side was really impressive.

Cork did the simple things really well, we did them incredibly badly.

Cork weren't even tested tonight.

So many players out of form, Massey has been particularly woeful and is suffering the most after having Andy Boyle beside him & Horgan in front for so long.
Defensive tinkering still required until we find a partnership that works. McEleney should go back to the wing so we can have 3 strong central midfielders in there. Maybe Clifford deserves another chance? Shields was as bad as I've ever seen.

Who's looking forward to getting pummeled in Europe! :)

Cork on that form could do the domestic treble.

At least there was some entertainment in the shed!! Great craic altogether.

A pure embarrassment!! Men against boys, one shot on target all night, disgraceful performance players should hold their heads in shame.

They are much better than I certainly thought

We are miles off where we should be.

Worst of all they had a gameplan, executed to perfection, we played like it was just another game against just another opponent.

I'm pretty unhappy. But I refuse to engage in using words like disgrace and shame when we're the reigning 3 in a row League champions.

That said to lose *like that* considering all the circumstances, you'd really have to wonder about the match preparation. Have they all lost their desire, the will to milk every last ounce of concentration, workrate...?

I hope I'm wrong but there was something very St. Pats like about us tonight. Trying the play the right way, attempted slide rule passes, no width, possession breaking down, and switching off when the opposition wins the ball.

there is no drive, determination or urgency in the team. The desire doesn't appear to be there anymore. We can all say myself included that we have lost the strength, leadership skills of boyle and the creativity of Horgan and Finn and that Finn leaving was a massive surprise with no plan B in place after his departure. We can also say that we are the creators of our own downfall with our European heroics from last season. But that was all happening 6 months ago, and we haven't improved one iota since the first game of the season. The will to get back into the game wasn't there tonight. when we were 1 and 2 down we continued to play across the pitch or backwards. Yes Cork pressed and closed us down very well, but we should have been driving forward. We need to change tactics imho. People know how to play against us and double mark McEleney For me we need to start playing 2 up front. The wide men are creating nothing. Very few crosses in etc. Duffy seems afraid to take his man on. Ìs there any of that squad that you would honestly keep on the performances thus far? We conceded our title tonight without even so much as a whimper.

That's it in a nutshell!
I don't see any point in accusations. We were beaten by a very, very good team. Cork have become what we were and then some more. I wish them well and look forward to their involvement in Europe with great interest.

The most annoying thing about that display last night was that it was a 'must win' game and a game we needed to win to have any slim chance of catching Cork, yet there was no fight or evidence of any kind of will to win. As soon as Cork got the 1st goal, the game was gone, it was as if the goal sucked the life out of the team.
I really do believe that the players, no matter what they were saying, gave up on winning the league weeks ago, and they know they have enough to finish 2nd. To give up our crown like that is very disappointing, last season seems like a million years ago.

The have in their arse.

They are built on a very good defence and exploit mistakes ruthlessly.

We were a different animal completely, we were creative.

Any debate around comparisons with our 2014-2016 teams are largely irrelevant to where we are at today.

The bottom line is that our standards have dropped in just about every aspect possible. Cork have improved this season while we have regressed alarmingly.

What is most difficult to take is that we came nowhere near matching Cork in the areas of workrate, aggression, desire or mental toughness. We also lost the tactical battle. Stephen Kenny has a huge job on his hands to get us back in league title contention for 2018

We have enough to make second? Jaysus we have a major job on our hands colly in order to do that. Bray starting to fall away but Derry and rovers are right there.

Whatever about supporters being complacent, if the team adopt the attitude that second place is a given, we are likely to be in big trouble. Europa league is guaranteed only for the top 3 and the gap to 5th place is only 5 points. There is a lot to be done
