Link to the Democrat article on Shane Grimes announcing he is leaving

I have the height of admiration and respect for Shane. His commitment to his home town club was such that he reject opportunities for first team football elsewhere to contribute as a squad player here. Thanks and good luck to you!

Democrat saying that McMillan is on holidays in the far east and Kenny due to have more talks on his return

Ditto re John Mountney who is in America on holiday.

Mentions also on Benson and McEleney - although nothing new reported

Meanwhile Rovers also linked with McMillan in the Sun

I have no doubt that agents are behind this, trying to up the ante. Rovers - and Cork in particular - would happily sign players up just to stop them being with us.

Even more reason to get your better players on 2 and 3 year contracts to stop the merry go round. You could be right OF.

It must be a very frustrating process for the club, to have no control over who they speak to when out of contract, but at the same time trying to offer the best deal and to possibly counter what a rival can offer, and trying to remain within budget !

Want to add my best wishes to Shane Grimes as he departs Dundalk FC. A player who always gave his best when on the field of play. You could not but notice how approachable he was, be it to talk or have photos taken. Shane came back the season past after a horrific injury to play his part & in the games he replaced the injured Dane Massey he again did not let us down. I wish Shane all the best for the future & I thank him for all his efforts while at Dundalk FC.

Does Shane’s departure mean we are getting a new full back? Dean Jarvis?
I haven’t seen much of him but could he start ahead of Dane who had a few mistakes this year imo

After all the talk of Simon Madden and Sean Gannon swapping, Rovers have "released" Madden!

Perhaps Madden was p!ssed off with Rovers trying to get Gannon, or is Bradley turning into Sean McCaffrey?

Daniel McDonnell is normally very reliable and well-informed. This in todays Indo:

Dundalk are hoping to fill the void left by missing out on Sheppard by completing a deal for in-demand Galway striker Ronan Murray, who was a target for Cork.

However, Stephen Kenny is still battling to try and hold on to Patrick McEleney and David McMillan.

The latter has a contract offer on the table from St Johnstone, while McEleney is keeping his options open and has spoken with League One side Blackburn Rovers about a move across the water.
He has interest from other English teams at that level and his hometown club Derry City but Dundalk still feel they have a chance of keeping the talented 25-year-old.
Midfielder Robbie Benson was also the subject of interest from the UK but it's now considered more likely that he will pen a new deal.

Dundalk are also closer to signing Derry left back Dean Jarvis and a return to the club for free agent striker Pat Hoban is also an option, although they were unable to agree terms in the summer.

Is Murray an out and out striker? How long has Hoban been without a club now?
I expect that Poynton will return to the squad, possibly taking the place of Clifford.

Good question on Murray, I'm not sure he is an out and out striker, he might be an attacking MF or possibly similar to Kurtis Byrne who can play wing or behind the main striker depending on the system used. With more recent players, he might not likened to Tommy Stewart, but just a little bit quicker and a sharper in front of goal!

If he joins, SK might use him as the main striker, but will depend on what other players we get in / remain, he's definitely a decent player, just turned 26, that's a decent age and he can improve too. Get him in !

Hoban was released by Mansfield Town in June 2017 - that's a fair old time out to be honest, he would have had the summer off, but its still almost 6 months since he last played, it goes by quickly. If he can prove he is fit, and is within budget, he has to be worth taking in? He's similar age to Murray I think. Maybe younger?

Good to see Georgie back. Also good cover for right back.

Probably heard how much they offered Gannon. I'm sure Cork will offer him a good wedge just to keep him off our books. All joking aside it does seem as if Caulfield, McNulty et al have an inferiority complex and really are obsessed with Dundalk.

No mention of Cork anywhere in this news. You are the one bringing us into it.
I'm not sure where this idea that we have signed players to stop Dundalk getting them has come from. Who have we taken away from you, and if we have signed them have the been a plus or us or have they just been squad players?
Aaron Barry? We tried to sign him last year two, so the interest there was genuine, and we aren't exactly over flowing with central defenders.
Ronan Murray? We definitely need a striker!
Maybe its a case of the top two clubs having similar needs, and there being a very small pool of players available in Ireland to pick from.
We already have two right backs, can't imagine we'd go after Madden this time, though we have shown an interest in the past.
