Are you suggesting that SK has not made contact with any players?

Some news of progress and more importantly deals completed would be nice this week, it just seems very odd how quick off the mark Cork were this week compared to nothing happening at Oriel, other than an expected arrival performing a u turn.

Hopefully a lot of work is being done behind the scenes, and we are not missing out on any genuine targets.

Caulfield's strategy is two-fold.

1 Build up a big enough squad to have a real go at Europe.
2 Snap up anyone we might need as either a replacement or an addition.

If they get knocked out in QR1 expect a bit of an offload in the transfer window.

We've been trying to sign Horgan for a couple of years.
If we get knocked out in QR1 we will be playing in the Europa League QR2 against other knocked out teams.

Could it be as simple as the fact that the top two clubs are looking for similar players from a small pool?

The League of Ireland is a merry-go-round as we all know. No harm in shopping outside it... I wonder if during the summer the club looked at options in the UK and need to wait for the transfer window to open? Though you'd imagine League 2 would be the highest standard we could afford.

Couple of rumours on Twitter of us looking for Brandon Miele. Would be a super signing, but it would be a huge surprise if Rovers let him go, unless we were offering him a serious wedge.

I think Miele is contracted to end of 2018 Colymull, how much would he cost in a transfer and would the club stump it up? The other thing is getting him to move from Rovers, he seems settled there. But money talks.

Supposedly hes in contract talks at the minute which have stalled. Might be nothing in it but what a signing he'd be!!

This is in the FAI rule book, I hope we haven't talked ourselves into trouble here. Did we contact Cork in writing before signing that pre-contract?:

39.3. A club intending to conclude a contract with a Professional must inform his current club in writing before entering into negotiations with that Professional. A Professional shall only be free to conclude a contract with another club if his contract with his present club has expired or will expire within six months. Any breach of this provision shall be subject to appropriate sanctions.

Obviously they all do it, but Kenny has pretty much said we did in writing if anyone wanted to make mischief. Trashing it out in my head the pre-contract counts as negotiations, so we could be in trouble there but then Dundalk aren't 'intending to conclude a contract' with Sheppard - because you can't until the 1st December.

Badly written rule really - you could drive a bus through 'intending to conclude'

O'Connor - Loan again?

Ciaran O'Connor is on the PFAI list for out of contract transfers.

Just to clarify the situation re expiry of contracts. Although the standard FAI registration document has a specific section for the finishing date of the contract, clubs tend to insert "EOS" (End of Season). The player becomes a free agent immediately after their final game, which might not, of course, be the final league game. Hence the PFAI list of free agents issued this week. 52 week contracts will change all that where there will - naturally - be a set expiry date. The 1st December is the first day of the financial year for clubs. Player contracts would not normally be tied to the financial year unless specifically dated by coincidence.

On the Sheppard fiasco the critical thing is that no actual contract was signed. Kenny does makes a valid point though. Pre contract agreements are only binding on the club - not the player.

Remember 2 years ago at the launch of the new jersey Benson and McEleney were unveiled and most people knew nothing about it beforehand.
Next year's new jersey launch is scheduled for end of this month, maybe a few surprises then?

They've been flogging the last of this year's stuff for half price in the club shop for a while now, got a nice jacket for €25,
