Dundalk boss Stephen Kenny has confirmed that work has begun on tying players who are out of contract at the end of the season down to new deals. He said: "I’ve nothing concrete to tell you on that but there is work going on behind the scenes. The process has started."

He posted something similar some time ago about SK discussing this with the board. Hopefully the latest is indicating that these negotiations are advanced, rather than just started with one or two players

Dean Jarvis is and always has been a left back - and a pretty decent one too! Bizarre.
In Kenny we trust.

This really should be done before players go in to the last year of their contract not waiting until a few months before it expires. Losing Finn last season for example.

We'd also have a better chance of retaining our star players like Duffy if we extended their contract rather than them have an outstanding last season and be available for free

The other relevant issue is that other clubs are entitled to enter negotiations with a player and even agree a pre-contact deal six months from the end of their current contract. For anyone with a contract expiring at the end of the season that threshold was passed earlier this month.

It tends to be harder to negotiate with someone who has another offer, than it is with someone who thinks they might get another offer.

Interesting response from Stephen Kenny............

With ex-Dundalk players Patrick McEleney, Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan having indifferent seasons in England, I asked Stephen Kenny would he like to get some of the old band back together. He said he didn't think a move for any was likely "in this window". Full story in The Argus

We should be monitoring the situation at Rovers very closely. If they fail to make Europe and their owners don't fancy continuing to fund their first team then there could be some very attractive players available.
Aaron Bolger, Burke, Miele, Clarke could all be interesting options
*I have no idea of the contract situations if any of those players.

It'll be interested to see if the new investors are willing to invest in the squad in July, or at the end of the season. We should be in a position to talk to the like of Bolger and Clarke and ask if they want an extra 25% on their wages next season plus European football.

He could be, I just meant we should be in a position to offer attractive deals to anyone we fancy at midtable teams like Rovers, if they're not seriously tied down

Willo Flood available - could he do a job for us in midfield?

Captain Willo Flood among Dundee United departures

Captain Willo Flood is among a group of players leaving Dundee United, the Championship club have announced.

Flood, 33, exits along with fellow midfielders Jordie Briels, Paul Quinn and Grant Gillespie.

A 33 year old playing in the Scottish second tier. Honestly couldn't see how he'd be any addition

Gary Twigg came from lower levels of Scotland. Alan Spavin and Dean Bennett were older.

Maybe he is not good enough, but his age or last club are not reasons to dismiss a short term role
