Finn Harps V Dundalk | Sat 7 Oct | 5pm | Finn Park

Postby Ezeikial » Fri Oct 06, 2017 4:29 pm

A match that is little more than a nuisance ahead of the FAI Cup replay on Tuesday night?

While it means everything to Finn Harps, who are fighting for their PD lives and need to jump two league places to survive, it will hardly whet the appetite of either the team management or supporters.

Anything other than a win hands the title to Cork, who will otherwise probably win it in their next game. It would be ultimate anti-climax for Cork to win the league title watching the match on TV!

I think SK will rest as many players as possible ahead of the cup game, and won't be overly bothered about risking a poor result

While risking the wrath of another poster, this is ilttle more than a private broadcast for Cork City supporters. I'm fairly confident they will be gathered together complete with OBU to capture their reactions as they do/don't win the title. Yes, we can't be caught for second, but SK won't want to give up easily - or be unfair on the other clubs at the bottom. More importantly, the cupboard is very bare in terms of support from the 19s. A number are injured and the rest were well off the pace against Shelbourne. The spirit was there, but physically they were out of their depth. By my reckoning, Grimes, McGrath and Stewart are the only fit/available reserves from the first team with Mountney, Kinsella, Clifford Shields and Massey all out.

Are you suggesting SK should pick the strongest team available to him?

Do you think that he will do that?

All of a sudden he has very few options. Especially in the middle. It's going to be a makeshift side regardless.

On one hand O'Donnell is a risk, on the other he needs game time and we have no one else for that role.

I'd rest McMillan and play Stewart. I'd rest McEleney and play McGrath maybe. Maybe three at the back and rest Gannon too? Duffy and Connolly both need the game to improve on recent performances.

It's going to look very different even without an eye on the Rovers match.

Team news

Conor Clifford misses out through suspension after accumulating five yellow cards while Steven Kinsella, John Mountney, Dane Massey and Chris Shields are all ruled out through injury with Shields to miss the remainder of the 2017 season with a knee ligament injury.

Some valid points being made about how TV schedules unfairly dictate kick-off times. Unnamed Dundalk official also referenced making critical comments around TV scheduling for the cup semi-final in Oriel.

McMillan rested as expected. Duffy and O'Donnell on the bench both being minded. No Vemmelund or McEleney in the squad obviously with an eye on Tuesday

Assuming the formation is the normal one:

Rogers
Gannon-Gartland-Hoare-Grimes
Benson-Jake O'Connor
Connolly-McGrath-Ubaezuonu
Stewart

Watching Gartland and Rogers getting mixed up makes me nostalgic for when Boyle and Rogers used to get into mix ups.

2-0 , fair play to Dundalk, makes Cork City sweat a bit more , Dalymount won't be easy. Pitch a disgrace , Harps tackling shocking.

A good win in difficult conditions. Hopefully there are no injuries or knocks coming out of it!

The pitch was shocking, Harps are very poor they were given a life line before the game with the Dundalk team that took the field but never looked like taking it, decent performance by us went and got the job done in difficult conditions, hopefully no injuries, Timlin should have seen red at end of first half.

Decent performance, always nice to get a win and clean sheet, lovely finish by McGrath at the end, but the big bonus was no injuries as we now have clear focus for Tues night, what a match that will be.
