Shamrock Rovers V Dundalk | Tues 10 Oct | 7:45pm | Tallaght Stadium | FAI Cup Semi-final Replay

Stephen Kenny says we have to do it the hard way to create history by reaching a 3rd consecutive FAI final

Kenny concluded by expressing his desire re-write the history book again as Dundalk FC bid to reach the AVIVA Stadium for the third year in-a-row, something the Lilywhites have never achieved

“We’ve won one trophy already this year in the EA SPORTS Cup which we were delighted to win. But, we want to be the first Dundalk team to get to the AVIVA Stadium for three years in-a-row – no Dundalk team has ever done that.

“The importance of that for a provincial town is that it has a massive effect on the whole region – that’s the motivation so it’ll be a tough game for us.

“We’ll have to do it the hard way after taking the lead at home and not seeing it out so we have a tough game ahead of us against Shamrock Rovers – there’s no doubt about that.

“We’ll have to get ourselves ready. We’ve the capacity to rise on the big nights – the players are able to produce on the big nights.”

Aviva cup finals are special - I yearn for another one this year, and believe that we can do it on Tuesday

Any chance Massey will be fit for this?

If he is fit I would expect Vemmelund and Gartland to start at centre back.

Otherwise SK has a call to make about starting Grimes or Vemmelund at left back, with Hoare coming in alongside Gartland.

The rest of the side picks itself

Hoare is a great centre back who won every header against shaw in the first game. He lacks a bit of composure though. When under perceived pressure he reverts to hoofing. And when under actual pressure he tries to play ball and gets caught. A great centre half though that just needs to improve decision making

I'd start with gartland and vemulund in the middle and Grimes on the left. Grimes unlucky to be dropped for cork and cup games. Vemulund looked out of position at left back.

I'd agree with above as much as Hoare did well last night, I'd be putting Vemmelund in with Gartland in the centre.

Also I'd start with a natural left back. Grimes has the jersey for that.

Then same starting positions for everyone else who played last Sunday.

Sounds like there are a number of injury doubts ahead of Tuesday night, based on Stephen Kenny's posy match comments

“Patrick McEleney also had to sit today out, Dane Massey and Steven Kinsella (are injured on a longer-term basis), and Niclas Vemmelund, of course, we’ll have to see about him before Tuesday night,” Kenny added.

No, unless there is a late development , which appears unlikely

Team news

Dundalk will be without the injured Chris Shields after he suffered knee ligament damage against Rovers last week while Conor Clifford has been suspended from all footballing activity for six months. Steven Kinsella and John Mountney are also ruled out however Dane Massey will undergo a late fitness test and will be given every chance to play.

There’s a few people buying tickets for the home end apparently. It’s a pity we didn’t get a bigger allocation of tickets rather than having a half full stadium. Hopefully Vemmalund is fit to start the game, Massey might be a big gamble for such an important game though.

A Few? Buses are going from town with more people with home end tickets than away end tickets

When we won the league there in 2015 there were a few of hundred Dundalk fans in the home end.... we congregated down towards the away end. Get in early if you have a home ticket and get grouped together

There is a simple reason why Rovers are not allocating more than 600 tickets, they cant be bothered with the admin/logistics. If you know the main stand, the away part where we go is about 1/3 (max) of that stand, then there is the tunnel area in between the dugouts and this is where the press/guests/etc all have reserved seating. To the left of this as you face that stand is another area that we could easily have been housed, but they obviously couldn’t be bothered with the extra security.

I walked to this area from the front of the away section for the EA final, (where we were getting soaked) and we had a great view, a complete back row all to ourselves.

This is the area that any Dlk fan can easily buy a ticket either online or on the night and just sit there. There is absolutely no way this game will sell out, another baffling thing really, as no Irish club is in any position to turn down ticket sales for a match that they have a safe capacity for.

Anyway I think we will win, 2-1 or 2-0, looking forward it it big time. Bring it on.

Id put Vemmelund in with Gartland, then the only choice really is who to play left full, I`d be tempted to stick with Grimes, the rest pick themselves in MF and upfront.

Rovers have started cancelling tickets bought online for home section. A Dundalk fan has received an email from Rovers stating his tickets have been cancelled and he won’t be admitted to the home end and the email contained screenshots of his Facebook page showing he was a Dundalk fan - the email was sent by a Dave Hillard.

Beware!!!
