One Player. Only one

Postby sirjohntemple » Wed Oct 11, 2017 8:16 pm

It’s getting to that time of the season where we’ll all start speculating on who we’d like to sign for next season. However as we are very well aware, it’s just as important to tie down current members of our squad. The dogs in Park St knew that Hoban, Richie, Boyle and Horgan were leaving but I think Finn was a real surprise.
So I’d like to ask, if you could keep ONE AND ONLY ONE of our current squad, who’d it be??
Very difficult decision of course. However for me it’s Sean Gannon. Best right full in the league. Great age profile and perfect for SK’s type of football.

Look he's not everyone's cup of tea but there's one player whose presence has an extraordinary effect on players and fans alike. The sight of Shields warming up and then coming on gave Dundalk fans a huge lift. It's also coming out now that he and Vemmelund and Stewart should never have been passed fit under normal circumstances yet insisted on having the chance to give whatever they could last night.

A fit Patrick McEleney has no equal in this league

C'mon OF, if everyone is fit, Chris isnt even first choice for SK.

If you love being entertained, after all it is just a game, then McEleney is who you want to see.

A fantastic player who has contributed more to our success over the last 5 years than any other player and is regularly the most influential player on the pitch, but if I can only pick one (Hey Sir John, we wont win much with a one-man team!) it must be Fats

I would go for McEleney but he is so anonymous in the big matches.

Vemmelund for me

I think you answered in your own post why it should be SOD... doesn't matter we have both

Can I pick a combination? Stephen MacMillan or David O'Donnell? Can't decide. So many influential players over the last few years.

It would have nice if, for once, people could make their point without slagging off someone else's opinion. Your choice should be able to stand on it's own merits, without the need to knock someone elses.

Tread’s getting tasty already!!!

SOD makes us tick like no other player. He’s the LOI Pirlo but he can’t play every game. Vemmuland’s positioning, reading of the game and skill make him IMO the best CB in the league but we have cover for that position. We struggle for cover without Gannon.

Good topic, I'll turn it around a little and ask another question, who would you be worried about leaving the most?

For me, its Sean Gannon, his form last 2-3 months has been up there with his career best, what a player, simply gliding through matches, perfect build for a full back, McMillan is a class act, and prob deserves POTY, but Gannon for me is a player I desperately want to keep, 2 year contract too.
