It was announced that it was not currently scheduled to be on TV, they did say it was subject to change......

Exactly the type of match that's needed to sharpen fitness of fringe players.

It appears that the match away to Sligo Rovers originally set for next Saturday July 21, has put back to the following day with a 7pm kick-off, but subject to postponement if Dundalk progress next Thursday against Levedia.

Strange that this was not decided and announced by the League way back

There should be no reason the Sligo away game can not be played next weekend, but good idea moving it out by one day. I think regardless if we progress, it should be played, as it's better to try and get these games played especially with the quality and big squad we have.

Should we progress v Levadia, we will be at home the following Thursday v Larnaca so obviously no travel that week and it will still give 2 full days rest before Sligo and 3 full days to prepare for Larnaca.

It will mean the Bohs game will be cancelled on Friday 27th though.

And the home game against Rovers on Aug 3rd. I agree with you about playing on Sunday. That's why we are building such a strong squad.

If we make progress into 2nd round or beyond, league match postponements may become more important.

There is no travel involved between QFR1 2nd leg and QFR2 1st leg (assuming we go through), so it is in our interests to play this match on Sunday to avoid a potential fixture pile-up and/or Cork taking a lead in the table

I totally disagree lads. The league should be our main concern and i think after playing thursday we should not have to play sunday and thursday. We need to prepare properly for this game. We are only 4 points ahead...if we were 6 or 7 I'd say play it but not with the gap at 4.
Dundalk Fc. First Irish club to win points in group stages of a major European Competition.

Both are important and if we progress in Europe we will want other league matches postponed to keep up the challenge on both fronts

If we progress to the QFR2 we will want the Bohs match on 27 July postponed and if we were to progress further we would benefit from having the Rovers match on 3 Aug postponed. Cork may have less games postponed and therefore close the gap in the league, while our postponed games are likely to lead to fixture congestion later.

In my opinion it would be far better to play the Sligo game next week when we have 2 back-to-back european home games where there is obviously no travel.

Presumably SK has a different view and therefore the Sligo postponement is a happening thing if we overcome Levedia

I can’t see any logic in postponing the Sligo game. Get it played and out of the way, it’s a 3 hour journey, and as mentioned before no away travel in Europe that week if we progress past Levadia.

We can’t keep looking to cancel these games as if we do progress next Thursday the Bohs and Rovers game will need to re-scheduled also, but for more obvious reasons. At this rate our next league game will be August TBC.

Have to agree, play the Sligo game Sunday. Be different if it was falling between two away European games.

Stephen Kenny would probably disagree with yourself. In one of his recent interviews he postulated, should a we be aiming for games in Europe to be the most important? Or winning the league as being the pinnacle which on the grand scale of things is on a much smaller scale.....to paraphrase.....he feels we should be aiming higher and European runs will live longer in the memories of fans and players than league championships.
