And 5 days before the cup semifinals (hopefully). Derry at home to Rovers on the Friday so no easy 4 days for them either.

At least we're at home.

Run-in taking shape now. Weekend of the EA Sports Cup Final is a bit of a dead dog. I would expect a friendly there ahead of the Cork game, notwithstanding our possible involvement in the Cup the previous weekend.

Fri 17 Aug Bray Wanderers v Dundalk
Mon 20 Aug Sligo Rovers v Dundalk
Fri 24 Aug Dundalk v Finn Harps
Tue 28 Aug Dundalk v Shamrock Rovers
Fri 31 Aug Limerick v Dundalk
Fri 7 Sep FAI Cup QF
Fri 14 Sep FREE
Fri 21 Sep Cork City v Dundalk
Tue 25 Sep Dundalk v Derry City
Sun 30 Sep FAI Cup SF
Fri 5 Oct Dundalk v St Patrick's Ath.
Fri 12 Oct Waterford v Dundalk
Fri 19 Oct Dundalk v Sligo Rovers
Fri 26 Oct Bohemians v Dundalk

Still to be refixed:

St Patrick's Athletic v Dundalk LSC SF

I dare anyone tell me this belongs in " Non Dundalk Talk"

Cork City 1 St Patrick Ath 1

We are now level with Cork with 2 games in hand. If we win both its effectively 7 points ahead because of our superior goal difference.

These are the league games scheduled prior to meeting Cork in Turners Cross on 21 Sept

Cork
Played 29 Points 67
31 Aug (H) V Sligo
14 Sept (A) V Bohs

Dundalk
Played 27 Points 67
20 Aug (A) V Sligo
28 Aug (H) V Rovers
31 Aug (A) V Limerick

It's important to get maximum points if at all possible in these matches. If we win all 3 matches we will be top of the table after playing Cork In Turners Cross no matter the result on the night.

We play two games more than Rovers before we play them, there will have to be some squad rotation particularly for the Harps game to keep us fresh. They will have an 11 day rest on the back of two dismal defeats.

Win the next three games then rock up to Turners Cross with the side that finished in the League Cup match in Cobh for the lulz.

The team will go out to win in Turners Cross as they do for every game but not losing that game will be important.

This isn't me taking results for granted or anything but *in theory* if we win the next four games we can 'win' the League on the 5th October at home to Pats, regardless of Cork's other results. Technically we'd still need another point but the goal difference means it's over.

If we draw in Cork and assuming both sides win all the other games, we're looking at just needing a point at home to Sligo.

If Cork turn us over but we win all the other games goal difference means we are still as good as Champions if we beat Sligo in our last home match.

Its doable when you look at the fixtures - Rovers playing poorly, Limerick struggling on and off the pitch, Derry leaking goals for fun and a high intensity battle v Cork where we a due a performance and win in Turners Cross. After that the games agains Pats could be tricky depending on which St Pats turn up. Waterford away is always a difficult fixture this season. You'd have to expect a win against Sligo and Bohs have been a bit of a bogey team albeit last time out in Dalymount Hoare practically took the apart alone but Bohs had far too many chances for comfort and it was 0-1 for a long time. I really think the next 4 games are the ones we are least likely to put in subpar performances than after the Derry game. Cup fixtures aside - we will probably draw Cork away in that before the final this year.

We are in a very strong position, but talk of when we win the league is a tad premature.

Two of the next 3 leagues games are stiff tests (Rovers at home and Cork away) - pass them and maybe we can start to look at it then

Totally agree. We are 1/6 favourites with the bookies, but I expect a few twists and turns before the end of the season. I think we will be heading to Dalymount needing a result. Cork are dogged and determined and won't relinquish their title easily.

We have won 13 in a row, yet are only 3 points clear. In any other season we would be miles ahead. Credit to Cork for their run of form too.

Interesting to note from the 4 remaining home league games, 2 are on a Tuesday and then the two on Fridays in October. I think the Tuesday games, late August and late Sept, floodlights on for the whole match next Tuesday, these games are so much better than a Sunday afternoon /tea time kick off.

We should get decent crowds for all of these, and I’d be disappointed if any are under 3k at this stage, maybe the Derry one might be the only exception but not if we are close to the finish line at that point.

It’s an excellent position we are in, but let’s just focus on one game at the time.

With the LSC SF against St Pats now fixed we now know where we stand, notwithstanding any cup progression. The section at the top shows our totals and their relativity to Cork ie played one less game, 3 points ahead etc.

Played 28 (-1); Points 70 (+3) Goal difference 57 (+19)

Fri 24 Aug Dundalk v Finn Harps FAI Cup R2
Tue 28 Aug Dundalk v Shamrock Rovers
Fri 31 Aug Limerick v Dundalk
Mon 3 Sep St Patrick's Athletic v Dundalk LSC SF
Fri 7 Sep FAI Cup QF
Fri 14 Sep FREE
Fri 21 Sep Cork City v Dundalk
Tue 25 Sep Dundalk v Derry City
Sun 30 Sep FAI Cup SF
Fri 5 Oct Dundalk v St Patrick's Ath.
Fri 12 Oct Waterford v Dundalk
Fri 19 Oct Dundalk v Sligo Rovers
Fri 26 Oct Bohemians v Dundalk
