MCELENEY: WE KNOW WHAT TO DO

“It’s a tough few days for us with the quick turnaround in games but I think a lot of the boys have been in this sort of situation before so I’m sure we’ll be able to deal with it OK – we all know what is expected from us.

Cork
Played 29 Points 67
31 Aug (H) V Sligo
14 Sept (A) V Bohs

Dundalk
Played 27 Points 67
20 Aug (A) V Sligo
28 Aug (H) V Rovers
31 Aug (A) V Limerick

It's important to get maximum points if at all possible in these matches. If we win all 3 matches we will be top of the table after playing Cork In Turners Cross no matter the result on the night.

Interesting to note we’re currently on 13 league wins in a row. Two more wins to equal Bohs’ all time record of 15 in a row... Rovers at home, Limerick away to equal that, then a three week break from the league before the small matter of a trip to Turner’s Cross!

okay, so it's coming into the finishing straight, Dundalk v Cork.

Played 29 (7 games each left); Points 70 (3 ahead); Goal difference 56 (+18 ahead)

Fri 31 Aug Limerick v Dundalk / Cork v Sligo
(Mon 3 Sep St Patrick's Athletic v Dundalk LSC SF)
(Fri 7 Sep FAI Cup Limerick v Dundalk, date to be confirmed / Longford v Cork)

Fri 14 Sep Dundalk idle / Bohemians v Cork
Fri 21 Sep Cork City v Dundalk
Tue 25 Sep Dundalk v Derry City
Sun 30 Sep FAI Cup SF
Fri 5 Oct Dundalk v St Pats / Shamrock Rovers v Cork
Fri 12 Oct Waterford v Dundalk / Cork v Limerick
Fri 19 Oct Dundalk v Sligo / Derry v Cork
Fri 26 Oct Bohemians v Dundalk / Cork v Bray

Obviously Turner's Cross is the key game.
Cork will surely win their three home games v Sligo/Limerick/Bray, but have three tricky aways.

Probably need Rovers and maybe Bohs to do us favours. Waterford looks like the banana skin. Can’t lose again I think.

We are 3 points clear and a superior goal difference. We do not need favours from any team.

I don't think we'll win all of our remaining games

We don't have to win all of our remaining games.

There is no reason to lose faith at this point - we have a significantly better team and squad than Cork and are strong favourites to regain the title.

I'm not losing faith at all. I think we'll win the Title and deserve to and have done for months.

Before last night Cork had to win all their matches including beating us and we had to drop points in two other matches. One of those was last night, so now Waterford becomes the obvious banana skin for us. So for added comfort for us I would look at Cork's trips to Bohs and Rovers.

I also have a rather large mortgage, two not-so-teenagers living at home, and a double hernia. Please feel free.

Someone overseas looking at the table would probably figure those odds are about right. Even most Cork fans would probably keep their money in their pockets. If all things are equal (refereeing wise) to the end of the season I still see us coming out on top. Waterford is the only other place we might drop points. I just don't see us falling behind Cork AND Waterford in terms of who will take points from who over the the remaining games.

Assuming games go to form, a draw in Cork sees us level on points with a game in hand (home to Derry). If we can't beat 4 from Derry (H), St Pats (H), Waterford (A), Sligo (H), and Bohemians (A), we probably don't deserve it. And all this assumes Cork beat everyone bar us.

Go win our next two league games and we won't have too much to worry about.

As one of those matches is against Cork that's fairly obvious. Maybe Bohs will do us a favour.........
