Hibs boss Neil Lennon referencing the success of Dundalk (and previously Shamrock Rovers) in the Europa League as an example to his team

PS The journo credits Stephen Kenny with Rovers group qualification too!

While the others will determine the last few places either side of the seeding line, the Slovenian will be of most interest. If Maribor stay second they will push us down to 10th seeds in QR1. If they win their league we stay 9th and that effectively makes us top seeds in one of the 9 (unofficially geographical) groups allocated by the computer. This "either/or" scenario could obviously matter in terms of ease of travel.

I see Maribor did in fact win the Slovenian league over the weekend on goal difference after Olimpija were held to a draw on the last day but we are now down in 10th so someone else must have come in there above us.

Olimpija actually won the title on Head-to-Head Away goals scored (3rd tiebreaker in the Slovenian League). Google and Soccerway still show Maribor on top though.

It doesn't matter where we are in the rankings as long as we're in the seeded half of the draw. It's not like a draw from a group where you'll have one top seed, one second seed, one third seed etc. You're either seeded or not seeded, and we are seeded in the first two qualifying rounds. Interesting to see that we're ranked about 10th of 94 teams in the first round though.

And that's cumulative, so potential 780k for winning two rounds from the seeded half of the draw. Just a couple of weeks to the draw

The seeding is really key, we should be strong enough to get into round 2 and as we are also seeded in that round we will have a good chance, but even with the seeding it will depend on the draw.

We will avoid likes of Burnely, Besiktas, Sevilla, Sparta Prague, Bordeaux etc if we make round 2, but there are plenty of tricky teams to avoid in the unseeded side in round 2.

Round 3 the ine before the play off, that's another story, if we managed to get there we would be unseeded and the gloves would be off, the list is actually frightening and we would need to beat a team better than BATE, I would say the odds even if we got that far would be very long.

Then again it's worth remembering in the great 2016 adventure, we played 12 games and we were only favourites for one (v FH at home and we still didn't win it) but we were right close v Legia Warsaw, probably should have beaten them away.

Anyway everything will be revealed on the 20th when the draw is made. I missed the chance to travel in 2016, hoping to go this time

Cork got a horrible grouping for the champs league.

Any idea when our potential "grouped" opponents will be released?

The Champions League draw is tomorrow (Tues 19 June), Cork City released the info before lunchtime today

The Europa League draw is the following day (Weds 20 June), hopefully the club will get the info from UEFA at some stage tomorrow - hopefully they will release it straight away.

So Dundalk will play one of
Levadia Tallinn (EST),
ÍBV (ISL),
KuPS Kuopio (FIN),
Liepāja (LVA),
Tre Fiori (SMR) / Bala Town (WAL)
NSÍ Runavík (FRO)
in 1st qualifying round of the Europa League. Draw on Wednesday.

Just saw that on twitter.

Who are the teams you would like to avoid and who would provide us with the best chance of progression?
C'mon the town!!!

Avoid the Finnish and Icelandic sides quality wise I’d imagine..on paper we shouldn’t fear any of the above

You obviously want to avoid a trip into the uunknown to Finland. All other teams are winnable. Ibv are second bottom after ten games in iceland

We'd have to fancy our chances against any of those opponents.
Cork beat Levadia comfortably last year
ÍBV are having a dreadful season as has been mentioned
Liepaja are fourth in the Latvian league
KuPS are third in Finland but 11 points behind league leaders HJK (one of the teams Cork can play and the only I think they'd beat)
The San Marino, Welsh and Faroe sides would also be presumably weak
N'Golo Kanté has posters of Chris Shields on his bedroom wall
