That's a dangerous one oldfogey. Some people can misinterpret that as being the "only" promotion needed.

If the word circulates primarily to people who would attend anyway (and pay €15) then the reduction becomes only a "thank you" or loyalty gesture. That's laudable in itself but price discount promotions should be geared to be self-financing; or being an investment in attracting new customers who may become regulars

To balance out 1,000 people at €15 requires 1,500 people at €10

I got halfway through a long and engaging reply and then decided that, as it's Friday, and it's match night, and the kettle has just boiled, I can't be arsed and have deleted it all. You'll have to re-bait and cast again I afraid.

Are they plucking numbers out of the sky? Didn't look like 2200... cobh had 3 fans with them.

Unbelievably good. I had almost a row to myself in the stand.

It's more normal for shared gate cup matches for the attendance to be, ahem, counted "softly"

I watched first half from the shed and second from the stand. The crowd surprised me as I would have thought well less than 2k pre match

I think there was easily 1,200 stand side and the rest made up from shed and a little behind the goal, that was a decent turn out by Dundalk fans.

2200 is an incredulous number! Hard to believe. But there were a lot of casual supporters there last night. If there was an opportunity to entice them back last night was that night. It was a chance lost cos it was hard to watch at times.

yeh, I thought maybe 1800ish. Very odd that we'd over estimate a cup attendance when the gate is to be split. Or perhaps it confirms what many of us have suspected, that we are underestimating most league attendances for some reason

From Soccer Republic highlights there didnt look to be anything like 2200 compared to other games.

One reason for general underestimating league attendances, a GAA ploy but probably a long shot for Oriel, is that it might be lot easier to placate potential objectors to ground improvements in future if there is a perception of an average gate of c2000 or so every 2nd week with occasional larger crowds than saying there is 3-3500 every second week and that will grow with better facilities and then bumper crowds for key games on top. More away fans in a better away section potentially also increases disruption in the area match night that people could object to. Playing down numbers if it is the case might be sensible in this regard when it cant be a tax dodge like it may have been years ago.

Overestimating might help with future budgeting and salary cap requirements

Stats updated on page 2 of this thread, was only one outstanding, but it was a decent one (Bohs 3,139)

The current average is 2,663. This may surprise many, but from the 14 home league games to date, 8 were under 3k. We have with 4 remaining league games, and all huge ones, starting on Tuesday v Rovers, no reason each of these can not exceed 3k, and in the case of the Sligo one, hopefully well over 4k.

Interesting to note the season high so far, v Cork at the end of June was 4,117, and this had 4k home fans, so the support is clearly out there.

Reminder on last few seasons average.

2014 = 2,535

2015 = 3,147

2016 = 2,739

2017 = 2,705

Apologies re lack of updates on this, a mix of holidays and laptop getting fixed and can't get on it as the kids use it 24/7 !!!

Not sure anyone believes last night's figure. I wonder is it something as simple as not adding season tickets to the paying at the gate figure? Or are the volunteers on the turnstiles not scanning tickets properly or something.

Very hard to make sense of the figures, but if you take the cup games as accurate as there's no season tickets and gate receipts are split, then there was definitely a lot more than 400 extra compared to the cobh game
