Shamrock Rovers V Dundalk | Fri 23 Feb | 8pm | Tallaght

Postby Ezeikial » Sun Feb 18, 2018 5:33 pm

A feature of Stephen Kenny's management over the last 5 years has been his ability to get his teams to bounce back after a poor result.

While the media will build this up as a high pressure game for both managers, this will hardly impact on his approach.

Hopefully, we will see an improvement in the spine of our team with Gartland, Chvedukas and Hoban fit and available to start

BENSON PREDICTS ANOTHER 'CLASSIC' AGAINST SHAMROCK ROVERS

Robbie Benson was a frustrated figure following Friday nights draw with Bray Wanderers. The Dundalk midfielder missed four great chances during the course of the match which Dundalk couldn’t break down a resolute and hard working Bray Wanderers.

Speaking after the match, despite the first points collected for the season it had been a tough night for the Lilywhites. “There is not much to write home about” reflected Benson “The standard here the last number of years is that we win at home and we were not able to get over the line tonight and we are disappointed in there. But we have to pick ourselves up and get a difficult three points away to Rovers next week”

Benson had chances to clinch the three points for Dundalk only for some resolute goalkeeping and chances going amiss. It’s an aspect to the game that clearly played on the mind of the Athlone native.

“I had four really good chances in the game, I pride myself on being quite clinical when I get the opportunity, so personally it’s disappointing for me tonight I could have won the game for us tonight and I didn’t. To be fair it was the only car cut chances we created so I have to hold my hand up for that one and get my finishing boots on next week.”

While Tallaght will have fond memories for Dundalk players and fans alike it’s a different prospect next week with Shamrock Rovers looking to get their first points on the board and Dundalk would be a perfect statement of intent to do so.

“They are going to be in the same position as ourselves, a loss for either team next week and its a poor start. Both teams are really going to be fighting for everything next week and it should be another classic.”

Rovers look weak at the back and the front. But (broken record time) I'm very worried that the central midfield pairing of Bolger and Finn could dominate us. Bolger turning the Cup Final is seared into my brain and Finn in monster mode against the likes of Benson, Duffy, Connolly?...

Incidentally the new away jersey is being revealed today ahead of the match. Getting a number of compliments from in-the-knows, who seem to be giving the home shirt a back-handed criticism in the process!

Chevdukas was very impressive in the couple pre season games Iv seen him he’ll defo not be bullied.. think he will make the big difference to mid field we badly need and still skip to come back also... Georgie was decent too I’d have him over shields at the min from what I seen so far

More stupid effing stripes...

I'm actually cross about it now. I can go on the CX+ Sport website to the kit design page and knock out a nicer shirt myself in 5 minutes...

Is the current designer at CX+ Sport a huge rugby fan or something?

That thin black stripe tipping off the bottom of the crest looks like a factory flaw, and those hoops going around the back? It's a travesty.

Don't know why they feel the need to have stripes on both Shirts.
Sometimes Less is more. A plain white/ Plain grey would be nicer.
Perhaps stick to a traditional home kit and experiment with the away or A 3rd Kit.

It's an homage to 50 Shades of Grey. It's a tabloid headline writer's wet dream.

Both of these were vastly superior

Have to say above two were up there with my favourite tops in the past. New away has a Rugby feel to it, must get a closer look at it.

I have to say I don't mind that away jersey. Would actually prefer it to the home jersey.
