Dundalk V Limerick | Tues 27 Feb | 7:45pm | Oriel Park

Postby Ezeikial » Sat Feb 24, 2018 5:14 pm

No ifs, buts or maybes this is a game we simply have to win to get some momentum going.

While a cohesion and creativity in attack would also be encouraging to see, I suspect that getting 3 points is really imperative.

Team selection will be interesting

1-1 between Limerick and bohs at tge mo.

Dundalk can do it by 1 or 2 for me. Any time Limerick have come to oriel over the 20 years or so that I've seen them, they were always tricky. Could be a bogey team like Monaghan at times. Still fancy us to prevail

Looking at the Limerick line-up against Bohs tonight - while there are some decent players in their line-up, we really only need to focus on our own performance:

Brendan Clarke
---------------------
Shaun Kelly
Darren Dennehy
Tony Whitehead
Shane Tracy
---------------------
Daniel Kearns
Shane Duggan
Cian Coleman
Eoin Wearen
Billy Dennehy
-------------------
Mark O'Sullivan

I'd strongly fancy that we can turn them over - if we move the ball quickly and play with the intensity and creativity that we have lacked so far

BARRETT CONFIDENT OF DUNDALK RESULT AFTER BOHS DRAW

Limerick FC continued their unbeaten start to the SSE Airtricity Premier Division season with a 1-1 draw against Bohemians at the Markets Field.

However, the Super Blues were within touching distance of securing all three points only to be denied by a 90th Eoghan Stokes equaliser for Bohs.

Despite the late concession, Barrett felt that a draw was a fair result. “I think first half they were probably better but we were better in the second half,” said Barrett.

“If Marky O’Sullivan scores the second one it’s game over. They didn’t really look like scoring in the second half. I felt we were nice and compact and we looked more dangerous on the break. These things happen. We move on.

”Limerick went ahead on 59 minutes when Cian Coleman turned in Shane Duggan’s cross come shot and it looked at that stage that Barrett’s side were all set for two wins from their two games this season but Stokes’ goal ensured Bohs returned to Dublin with a share of the spoils.

Limerick travel to Oriel Park on Tuesday to take on winless Dundalk on Tuesday and Barrett is bullish about his side’s chances of getting a result.

When asked if he thought Limerick can come away from Louth with a positive result he said: “Of course I do. We think we can go everywhere and get a result. There is no point in going out if you think you’re not going to get a result.

“We will have to look and see who will play. We have three games in a week with Shamrock Rovers on Saturday as well and at this time of year that does matter.“The lads are still getting used to 90 minutes. We only had four pre season games but that’s why we have a squad. We have a lot of younger players as well and we won’t be afraid to use them.”

Nothing else but a win v limerick tomorrow night is needed ,we could be potentially 7 behind Cork if they beat Sligo this evening lets hope the result goes our way.

Its also possible that we could be only 1 point behind them depending on results.

I'd say Limerick game and those on tonight will all be fine, but possibly a different story for the end of the week including our trip to Derry. If its as bad as expected a lot of sporting events might get cancelled?

Ex Dundalk trialist Jeff McGowan could feature for Limerick on Tuesday.

According to reports they are also awaiting international clearance for midfielder Barry Maguire, who was a hot prospect about 10 years ago and was at the centre of an international battle between Republic of Ireland and Netherlands.

Injury doubts about Ellis and Morrissey who were both on the bench for them in the weekend draw against Bohs:

TEAM NEWS: #LimerickFC are on the road on Tuesday night when they travel to Oriel Park to face last year's runners-up @DundalkFC.

Strikers Connor Ellis (groin) and Danny Morrissey (shin) are doubts for the trip, but Tommy Barrett has otherwise a full hand to choose from.

Team news

Manager Stephen Kenny can welcome back Sean Hoare to the squad for the visit of Limerick after he has recovered from a hamstring injury he picked up in the President’s Cup. Captain Stephen O’Donnell and John Mountney still not ready to return. Karolis Chvedukas was in the squad for the first time this season on Friday and new arrival Marco Tagbajumi made his debut from the bench and will be in the squad for Tuesday once more.

Hate thinking of the 3rd game of 36 as being ‘must win’. But if everyone else is going to bend over for Cork in the first half of the season like last year?... Sligo 2 down at home inside 10 minutes. Nonsense.

7 points behind now, does that make tomorrow a must win? I think so.

A toothless Rovers putting 6 passed Bray makes our opening day draw look even worse.

Finally Cummins has 4 from 2 now after a hattrick tonight, he's hit the ground running....

So must win tomorrow, probably must win on Friday and certainly a must not lose Friday week! Too early to be saying that?

Time for our boys to step up to the plate, there is no room for a bedding in period

From Stephen Kenny's perspective and that of the team, they will only have eyes on the Limerick match.

There's plenty of time to look at the rest of the upcoming matches then - we could be sitting in anything from 3rd to 9th place at that stage!
