Do you know that this actually happened?

Yes I do, those responsible came from the "smoking area" of the Lillywhite Lounge to launch their attack. A lesson for the club is that there should be no entering the "smoking area" untill the away support has left the ground. What a pity to be talking about this on such what was otherwise a great night to be in Oriel Park.

Nothing compares to live football when you have nights like that - Tribal warfare!

Excellent performance last night just fantastic to get the win, thought we were better all over the park. SK got his team selection perfectly with a few surprises. McGrath did very well and got stuck in right from the start, and Hoare slotted in perfectly with Cleary.

Ps kudos Ezeikial for 'picking' Hoare !

Thanks for that Townfan. I am taking what you have said at face value and confirmation that this attack did happen, although it is obviously incumbent on the club to verify the events independently

In the first instance apologies are due to the Cork fans who were subjected to the attack. I sincerely hope that no body was injured.

I hope the club act quickly and decisively around this. Obviously a formal and genuine apology must go out from the club - in my opinion this should be both by way of a direct letter to Cork City FC and a statement on the website . There should be no doubt that this is intolerable and that the club and its core of support want to be disassociated from this behaviour.

No effort should be spared to identify the culprits. If this can be done, prosecutions and stadium bans are appropriate

Watched the game on TV and its amazing the things you don't notice at the game. Jamie McGrath was fantastic, coming in off the right, excellent touches, control, and passing. A mature performance that Cork didn't know how to handle.

More kudos for Dan Cleary

'Chris Shields joked that Dan was going home to head ten balls before he goes to bed'
Dundalk boss Stephen Kenny was pleased with how his young centre-half pairing fared in Friday’s 1-0 win over Cork City.

Anything being done about the fools with the flares? Very easy to identify.

There are CCTV cameras in the smoking area so it be easy enough to identify the scum

Hoban was immense. Murray tremendous. Cleary composed and mature. Hoare had come on something serious. Gartland will do well to get back in. Massey stood up and was counted as Captain.

I did not think Duffy or Benson played well. Lots of endeavour but not end product. McGrath also average. Did not see a"fantastic" performance from him. Hoban even bollocked him twice in the first half for not chasing down a ball. Too timid. Definitely improved in the second half which was encouraging. Not vintage.

Overall team, management and crowd performance for 90+ minutes, outstanding. Game on!

By the by, cleary won so many if not all headers against Cummins. Never gave him a sniff, eventhough his shirt was being ripped off him everytime.

My MOTM (in a vintage performance): Cleary.

Top marks for having the integrity to put up the statement and for the intention to take action against anyone indentified as being involved.

It is a pity that it does not extend to an apology for anyone who may have been affected

Yeah I think an apology should have been added as well

An apology should come from someone who did something wrong. I detest anaemic statements of regret for something committed by someone else.

Dundalk FC did not throw glasses at Cork supporters, yobs did.

The responsibility of Dundalk FC is to take action against the culprits. This is what they are doing.
