St Patricks Ath V Dundalk | Mon 2 Apr | 3pm | Richmond Pk | EA Sports Cup

Postby Ezeikial » Sat Mar 31, 2018 2:26 pm

A quick return to Richmond Park for the EA Sports Cup game after the recent 0-0 draw in the league game.

In recent years Stephen Kenny has tended to make changes from the league side starting line-ups for the early rounds of this competition. I doubt if he will deviate from that for this Easter Monday afternoon match. St Pats may view this competition as an better opportunity to get their hands on silverware and may go with less changes. Either way, I suspect that we have such a strong squad that the team selected will be powerful and capable of winning.

It will be interesting to see if Ross Treacy gets a start in goal in place of Gabby Sava, who will be in nets for the next league match based on initial reports on Rogers being out injured for a number of weeks. SK could choose to give Sava game time in preparation for that Rovers league match.

Looking forwards to a leisurely afternoon trip to Inchicore!

Team news

The Lilywhites have a few injury concerns with Gary Rogers (calf), Sean Hoare (groin), Karolis Chvedukas (ankle) and Brian Gartland (tonsillitis) all sidelined however the match on Monday gives manager Stephen Kenny a chance to rotate his squad. Gabriel Sava, John Mountney, Marco Tagbajumi, Dean Jarvis and Stephen O’Donnell all in line to feature from the start in Inchicore.

St Patrick's Athletic host Dundalk on Monday afternoon as the sides meet in the EA Sports Cup Second Round in Richmond Park (kick-off 3pm).

The game pits the winners of the last four years of the competition against each other with Dundalk having won the competition last year and in 2014, while the Saints lifted the EA Sports Cup in both 2015 and 2016.

In team news, St Pat's manager Liam Buckley has no injury worries but will assess his squad closer to kick-off following last Friday's 2-1 league defeat against Derry City.

"The EA Sports Cup has been a good competition for us over the past few years so we will be looking to try and have another good run this year. A few of the players involved in our wins in 2015 and 2016 are still at the club so they know what it takes to go far in the competition.

"We are facing a very good Dundalk side on Monday who are on a good run of results lately. They showed their quality in Inchicore a few weeks ago when we drew 0-0 so we are expecting another really tough game. We know that we need to be at our best, and off the back of a good performance in Derry, we feel we can get a result and hopefully progress to the next round."

Kick-off in Richmond Park is at 3pm on Monday.

Tickets for the game, which can be purchased online are priced:

Adult: €10
Concession: €5
Child (U12): free with paying adult

Reports are that ref ruled pitch conditions meant it was unsafe. Both managers disagreed. SK saying it was in better condition than for last league game.

Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny feels that Easter Monday’s EA Sports Cup tie with St Patrick’s Athletic should have went ahead at Richmond Park.

The second round tie was called off after referee Adriano Reale deemed the pitch to be unsafe following heavy rain in Inchicore, a decision that left both clubs unhappy.
