The 3 big calls
1) Folan or Hoare
- It would be disheartening and maybe even demotivating for Stephen Folan to be left out, but Sean Hoare is the better defender. It is up to SK to be able to manage the disappointment for for Stephen Folan. Some might say the only way to manage this is to select him in the team!
2) Shields or O'Donnell
- It would be hard on Chris Shields to drop to the bench, but I think that Skip is likely to be more effective in this match
3) Adorjan or Murray
- This is a really difficult call. Kristzian Adorjan did really well against Bohs, but Ronan Murray is more of a goal scoring threat, even if we have not seen enough evidence of that

Our team will be strong no matter what SK decides here - I would prefer he makes all 3 changes, I expect SK to make none of them and to start with Folan, Shields and Adorjan.

I don't want to harp on about this but O'Donnell is way behind the pace of any match he's come on. There's no way I would have been droppong shields, he's played great this season, keep sentiment out of it. Hoare should start also.

Thought Adorján did very well again. Beautiful first touch.
Marco did well for his 10 minutes. Hopefully he gets 90 minutes against Pats and can get a goal or two.
Busy period coming up and the squad will be tested. Interesting to hear Mike Treacys comments last week that the squad size is front loaded for the busier first half of the season.

Great 3 points last night.
Shiels, despite his gem from the touchline, is fantastic. A true warrior and is heading into the pantheons of Oriel Folklore.
Two things.
1) I thought O’Donnell was ineffectual when he came on. He definitely is ‘not right’. I think this may be his last season, sadly. Because he is fabulous when fit.
2) i CAN’T understand why ALL teams dont have a ‘Specialist’ long throw player in the team. Look at the fear that, that long throw caused us last night!! We were trembling in the stand, and they very nearly scored from them. Physically, it would not take a very long time to train a professional athlete that skill.
Look how excited we get when we get a corner! We get a lot more touch throw in’s !!
Would be one hell of an extra attack option.
Food for thought.

Great win, although dug it out in the end. For me Shields was MOTM, what a season he is having to date. Adorjan can feel unlucky at been subed but would disagree with some comments on O' Donnell, he came on to settle it down & I thought he did his job well. Gannon & Mc Grath are linking up very well & this allows the former to get up the park, this can only improve. Still think we are not the finished article & already we are at the summit, long may this last. Also, have to mention Sava, played his heart out & what a save on to the bar late on. Yes, very happy with this result & fully deserved IMO.

Finally, the only blot on the night was the flare thrown on the pitch AGAIN, hopefully Rovers are made pay for the necessary repairs.

Chris Shields was magnificent tonight and has played really well in earlier games. That does not mean Skip is "finished" or is "Sideways Steve" as you previously labelled him. Shields and O'Donnell have different attributes and I am glad we have both in our squad.

Based on Stephen Folan's performance tonight it is pretty much certain that Sean Hoare will return once fit

Why does the club let Rovers fans so close to the pitch?

I would put up netting that keeps them 10-15 yards from the boundary wall.

Just to show that I harbour no ill feelings, I bring you a special interview from Gerard with Gary Rogers -there's not many journalists who go for the unusual post match interviews with a player who did not play!

Can you imagine the complaints about lines of sight if made stand further back up the terrace. Thought it was interesting the number of long diagonal balls played in to the left attacking area. Duffy was immense but they must have thought that they could target Boyle who did well tbf. Rovers were good, bit unfair people syaing Horgan should have gathered the ball for the first goal. The second....he has a look of Boris Johnson and he was more Boris like in goal for that. O'Donnell I thought brought a bit of composue or calmness when needed when he came on. If he had been quicker with the pull back when he got to the endline in the Rovers box it would have been a 3rd. Great to see a performance from Benson. Adorjan with more and more game time could be the best player we have seen in this era. Hoban does a lot more running at players than his first spell with us. He showed some quick feet along with being able to hold the ball up and bring players in to play. A better all round front man now. The ref let plenty go last night too, few decisions for both sides that were odd, especially the free at the end that was given out when Rovers were on top and going for the equaliser.

Maybe this should have a thread of its own but anybody see the video of the melee in Waterford last night? What the hell eas Caulfield doing on the pitch? It looks like he tried to rip the ball from the Waterford man?! Then got dumped on his arse!!! Waterford players steamed in, weren’t going to be intimidated

KENNY HAILS ‘GOOD WIN’

The manager was delighted with the support on the night and believes that his midfield scoring duo also got praise from Kenny.

“The supporters really got behind the team on the night and helped the team. It was great to have them and they helped us get the win.

Will have to wait till Monday to see it but if it's the case its embarrassing and unprofessional. Imagine if he did that in Europe?
