You were bang on about the strength of the line-up and playing the normal formation

Hopefully getting off the mark competitively will be a confidence booster for both goalscorers

He changed 9 outfield players most of whom have no match fitness. Should have been further ahead but a late collapse like the Pres Cup game was a bit predictable from early in the 2nd

St Pat’s 4 - 4 Dundalk: Marco Tagbajumi's penalty shootout winner seals hard fought EA Sports Cup win for 'The Town'
Mick Leahy went from hero to zero and back to hero again in the space of seven crazy extra-time minutes.

Severe lack of fitness in many of the Dundalk players tonight. O'Donnell was wrecked after about 60 minutes, Jarvis struggled the whole of the second half, Byrne is still way off match fitness, Marco was limping from about 30 minutes into the game, and even the ever fit John Mountney looked sluggish towards the end.

We looked good in the first half, but Pats controlled midfield in the second half and in extra time.

Dundalk were very disorganised at set pieces. I'm not sure what has happened to Folan. He started the season so brightly but looks error prone at the moment.

Very lucky to be in the next round.

The worst officiating performance I have seen since the home game against Bray last year. A referee who gave everything to Pats and two linesmen who couldn't keep up with play. It was embarrassing watching them.

Should have been out of sight at half time, completely controlled the game. A game of 2 halves most certainly with Pats way better second period. So many Dundalk players out on their feet on 90mins, but credit to all in pegging Pats back each time they went ahead. Some well taken penalties by both sides with Lady Luck on Dundalk's side... Good play from Gartland, & subs Massey & MC Grath but Byrne & Connolly will I'm sure admit they had a poor outing.

Yes, very poor refereeing indeed, this is becoming regular in Dundalk games of late with decisions going against us constantly. Let's hope this is not let continue. In the last 8 now & we move on, just...

Sounds like a good outing for the players that needed game time. Always good to have a compeative penalty shootout (when won) under the belts too in the event of needing one in Europe say. There is a sense of winning momentum even when under pressure now like in 2016. It may be the EA Cup but its been a useful competition for us in the past to get players games and build confidence aside from it being some potential silverware.

Not much good: Folan, Jarvis.
Debatable: Tagbajumi, Poynton.
Complete dud: Connolly, Byrne.

Great game to watch if you were neutral. For us fans, squeaky bum time.
