Limerick V Dundalk | Tues 17 Apr | 7:45pm | Markets Field

Postby Ezeikial » Sat Apr 14, 2018 1:04 pm

Before the midweek clash, Limerick take on Sligo Rovers tonight in a vital relegation 6 pointer that is hugely important for them; the 3 day turnaround to our Tuesday evenings match will present them with a challenge - both in terms of squad depth and recovery time.

We have our own issues after a far from convincing performance at Bray. It is possible that some or all of Rogers, Hoare and Murray could return to the starting line-up depending on fitness.

Limerick have had some decent performances and results at Markets Field and 3 points can certainly not be taken for granted

Dundalk squad travelling down on the Monday and for an overnight stay in preparation for the game. Board has to be applauded for making the finances available for that.
Limerick turned over 2-1 at home tonight by Sligo.
Surely there will be some rotation from SK with the Derry game 72 hours later. Or at least some 60 minute substitutions!!

It's hard to know if Limerick's defeat by Sligo will help or hinder our chances

Conor Clifford got some positive comments for his debut performance, Shaun Kelly played at right back and Danny Kearns came on from the bench
Conor Clifford went straight into a Limerick side lacking creativity. The former underage Chelsea star had received a worldwide ban from football for six months, which expired last week. He didn’t miss a step in the early stages and will surely improve the Blues going forward.

The extra day recovery time should be a significant advantage to our lads

Alan O'Brien / Tactics Truck offers some tactical analyses of Limerick V Sligo on Saturday.

He describes it as Limericks most damning defeat and is highly critical of the space they afforded to Sligo's full backs.

Team news.

Karolis Chvedukas misses out again with an ankle injury while Krisztián Adorján is doubtful after being forced off at half-time on Friday. In better news, Gary Rogers returns to the squad after a calf tear and Sean Hoare is available for selection once more after he recovered from a groin strain he picked up 3 weeks ago.

In my opinion, if there is even a slight doubt about Sean Hoare he should not start. Probably the same for Gary Rogers and Krisztián Adorján.

While the focus must be on the Limerick game first, there are big matches looming against Derry and Cork where we need to field our best players

The trade-off between easing them back and having them at peak match-fitness for the vital games...

I'd be tempted to start Marco with an eye on resting Hoban for the Derry game. That's if SK is prepared to make his subs with plenty of time left if needs be. Also both full backs have played every minute so far so maybe Poynton or Jarvis should play?
There's only one word for that - magic darts...

Anybody any idea what time one would expect to make it back to Dundalk from Limerick tonight leaving straight after full time via car?

Two and three quarter hours should see you back in town, so it's down to how quickly you can get into your car and whether you need to stop. After 11/11.30 almost all services are pay up front which can take anything up to 30 minutes if they are changing over, so top up before the game.

If you need a pitstop or coffee I highly recommend Moneygall at J23, about 30 minutes along the M7 coming from Limerick. Happy trails!

Limerick have managed only 5 goals in 11 games and, unsurprisingly, are the lowest scoring team in the division

Of their 6 home games to date, they have a single victory over Bray and two draws against Bohs and Cork. The most recent home defeat to Sligo is a bad blow and it is really hard to see them pulling off a shock result tonight.

Our most recent form may not be inspiring huge confidence, but hopefully we have enough about us tonight to take all 3 points

I’d be a little worried about their pitch, on SR last night two moves in the opening few secs they showed the ball was bobbling all over the place, plus could be another very heavy pitch.

We need to score first and manage this game carefully, 3 points please.

Yeah, a heavy pitch coupled with the high intensity game on played friday might again highlight our early season fitness issues. We should be putting Limerick to the sword but my fear would be if we don't score in the first half we are unlikely to be able to change up a gear in the second half.

Start with our strongest 11. Try and get the game won early then rest players. For me it is imperative we win tonight going into the Derry game Friday night plus imho we need to remain ahead of cork going into that game.
