Stephen O'Donnell aside, Dundalk are expected to have a full squad to pick from for Friday's game with Cork City. Stephen Kenny has admitted though that it might be a "little early" for John Mountney

It seems incredible that Skip could possibly re-appear before the end of the season. Here's hoping

Dundalk FC captain Stephen O'Donnell not ruling out comeback from injury this season after return to training
SSE AIRTRICITY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

Next Thursday, August 2, could be a decisive 24 hours in Dundalk FC’s season. As the Lilywhites play the second leg of their Europa League qualifier against AEK Larnaca in Cyprus, the club’s ‘skipper, Stephen O’Donnell, will meet with specialist surgeon Denis Collins at Beaumont Hospital for one last check-up.

It’s 12 weeks since O’Donnell broke his right leg in an Airtricity League match away to Waterford.

Dundalk captain Stephen O'Donnell will see a specialist this week to determine whether he can return to action this season or not following his leg break.

Groin I believe. A sign of being short on match practice. In any other circumstances he probably wouldn't have played last week.

After seeing a specialist last week, Stephen Kenny revealed that club captain Stephen O’Donnell could pull on a Dundalk jersey again this season.

“Will he play this season? I don’t know. He won’t be ready in the near future but maybe October, we’ll have to see.”

Gavin McLaughlin on a conversation with Stephen O'Donnell

Dundalk captain Stephen O'Donnell has given an update on his injury: "Everything is going as well as can be expected. There’s been no mishaps yet. Everything has gone smoothly enough."

"I just need to keep rehabbing and building it up now and see what way I am as the weeks go on as I keep progressing into running and that type of thing. Hopefully there will be no setbacks."

James Rogers tweeting on Karolis Chvedukas ongoing ankle injury

Stephen Kenny on Karolis Chvedukas' ankle problem: "He is waiting to see a specialist in relation to it. He might need an operation. He feels he needs an operation but it’s when that happens.

"We have to make a decision on that. We’d like to hold out until the end of the season but we’ll have to wait and see.”

I saw O’Donnell was doing very light running before the Finn Harps game. He obviously has a long way to go in terms of recovery and then fitness, but just imagine having him for an option to get us over the line from the middle of October.

I would say it’s a long shot. But he’s done it before.

O'Donnell interview from Between the Posts podcast. He mentions that he is seeing the surgeon on the 28th of this month hopefully for the last time and then he can get cracking on training to get back playing. It will be a push to see him back this season but he has done it before to influence the run in in our favour and hopefully he can do it again!

The most popular ex Dundalk player in history is also interviewed on the cup game v Cork tonight (which is televised).

From potential cult hero to waste of space.

Probably harsh, but I feel like a spurned lover. I doubt he’ll ever start half a dozen League games for us.

Disastrous season, but let's not discount the potential of having a fit Chvedukas for the full of 2019
