Ah lads, what a win. We were under the cosh and could have been 2-down. Instead finally we take our chances and we demolish someone
It is some win indeed. I think a lot of us myself included, felt a point would be good here. But a 4-1 victory is some result.

Great to see ardrojan back.

Super performance and even at 0-1 down you you could see the team were ready for this game.

Gartland back to his brilliant positioning for the goal from an excellent Duffy corner. What a ball from McGrath for Benson to round the keeper, Duffy was Duffy for his goal, and what a time for Adjoran for his goal, not just the goal, but the added comfort of another quality player available for selection.

Good for SK for playing Hoare in the middle, Poynton was fine at right full, but at least he is used to playing there, brilliant display by all, winning 4-1 up there and their first defeat in the new brandywell.

That was a really big statement by the team.

Michael Duffy was unplayable from Derrys perspective. Dylan again showed some good things. Georgie had a difficult job but performed manfully.

Excellent all round against a footballing team - consistency now is the key

That's a sensational result especially with an unsettled unfamiliar line up. I'd have taken a point.

Brilliant turnaround. I have to admit I feared for us at 1-0 down. Good for Adorján to get off the mark and Marco to contribute.
Folan dropping down the pecking order? When fullbacks are getting in your specialised position it's not a good sign. I can see Massey with a future at centre half.

I’m not even sure if we managed to turn around one deficit last season to a win? Open to correction if we did, but nonetheless this is a vital ingredient you need to win leagues.

On the mention of Folan, I feel a bit sorry for him as he put a big effort in to getting into the first team, however he has made an good few mistakes and has not looked solid in recent weeks, It’s going very hard to pick two from Cleary, Hoare and Gartland, but I’d see Folan as fourth choice now. Plenty of games ahead though and I said this many times before, we will need every single player as we will have 50+ games this year.

On the match itself, that was some display without to name even 5 in Gannon, O’Donnell, Cleary, Mountney, & Chevedukas.

Difficult night for Derry City – Kenny Shiels & Gavin Peers Reaction

Derry City suffered defeat for the first time this season at The Brandywell on Monday night, losing 4-1 to Dundalk, who moved two-points clear at the top of the S-S-E Airtricity Premier Division.

A tremendous performance & result. Having started brightly we let Derry in to score & we were shakey for a while particularly at the back with Rogers having to take off a great save with his feet, but once Gartland levelled there was no looking back. Benson's goal to go ahead was brilliantly taken & in the second half we destroyed Derry with Micheal Duffy giving his best performance in a Dundalk shirt, he was absolutely outstanding, his goal capped off a great night for him. Good play also from Shields & MC Grath who were at the receiving end of some heavy Derry challenges.

Good support for Dundalk & fair play to all, there has been a lot of matches & long journeys off late & the support has been wonderful throughout. Hopefully this win can be a springboard to getting a run of victories, up to now all are cancelling each other out & 4 or 5 wins in a row could put us well ahead of the also rans

Sensational indeed, especially with Cleary and Gannon missing. We sure have strength in depth.

Only occurred to me today that three away games in a row this series was Waterford, Cork and Derry. That’s a lot of miles away to the three teams closest to us. Only 3 points from 9 but still top and we have them all at home and a bit more spread out in Series 3.

Kenny Shiels is great craic, although he certainly didn't like getting called out by Gerry Malone post match - who he had a spat with him a few weeks back in Oriel Park.

GM: Are you seriously saying that Chris Shields is a cheat? I think that’s very harsh on your part

KS: I said that? I didn’t say that. Where did this guy come from? What are you telling lies for? Get him out of here – that’s a lie. That’s a lie, I did not say he was a cheat

KS was right he didn't call Chris Shields a cheat, but he strongly implied it about him and his teammates

KS: “They’re professional how they manage games. They go down and pretend to be injured, they dive, they do all the things that helps them. Like Chris Shields has three horrendous fouls and if you compare that with what Gavin Peers had two fouls in the full game at Dundalk and got sent off. But our young lads don’t know how to cheat. Like they just got 8 men around our player in Dundalk and that’s what they do – they kill out games”

He was also adamant that there was a foul with Rory Patterson being blocked off in the box for Brian Gartlands goal from a corner

Kenny sees things that others just can't see (well I couldnt see it in real time last night or the videos footage today)

Kenny Shiels is an excellent manager, but is less than gracious in defeat. He is not a true reflection of the decency and honesty of Derry City fans

Kenny delighted by the 'character' of his Dundalk FC players in 4-1 win over Derry City
THE LILYWHITES FELL BEHIND EARLY ON BEFORE LAUNCHING A STIRRING COMEBACK

Dundalk FC manager Stephen Kenny was pleased with the character shown by his side in last night's impressive 4-1 victory over Derry City at the Brandywell.

Having fallen behind early on, the Lilywhites struck twice in either half to condemn Derry to their first home defeat of the season.

Indeed, the spirit the visiting players showed to come back was something Kenny spoke about post-match, saying: "The players showed a lot of character after going a goal down. It was a great response and we're delighted to win 4-1."

He added: "Ger Doherty (Derry 'keeper) pulled off some outstanding saves, as he did in Oriel Park, a couple of unbelievable saves. We found ourselves a goal down, Derry are very good in possession and they kind of controlled the game. We're not used to that.

"But we had a bit of cutting edge in our play and we created a lot of chances tonight."

Brian Gartland scored the equaliser, heading home from a corner-kick, before Robbie Benson, Michael Duffy and Krisztián Adorján got their names on the scoresheet.

"It was a difficult situation to be in, 1-0 down with the crowd and the 100% record, but, obviously, the goal (the equaliser) was crucial, Brian Gartland's header.

"We have not been scoring the goals from set-pieces that we're capable of and we're acutely aware of that so it was important to get that goal.

"The goals were very good overall and a credit to the players."

Kenny made three changes to his line-up from Friday's victory over Sligo Rovers. Jamie McGrath, who assisted Benson's goal, which put Dundalk in front, was one of those included and his manager spoke highly of the attacker, amongst others.

"We're rebuilding the team after winning three league titles and five young players who we're after bringing in last season, George Poynton, Michael Duffy, Dylan Connolly, Jamie McGrath's just turned 21 and Seán Hoare, all came in and you can see their progression. They look like good players.

"They took a little bit of time to settle in last season, they all had good second-halves of the season, and you can see now that they're coming. They're all U23 and all good players."

Dundalk face Bohemians at Dalymount Park on Friday night.
