I think -1 for Dundalk @ 4/1 isn’t bad either, we seem to score as many away as at home these days.

Been looking at that for the past week, almost every day it changes from rain to sunny then back to rain again, so taking this with a pinch of salt, will still be over 20c, besides if it rains it’s unlikely to be all day job.

Tip for any fans heading out. You might need to go to your online banking site and select ‘notify travel’ or something similar and register your card as being abroad for the period you are away.

This is especially important as Estonia would fall into the category of not too common country in terms of travel. BOI have this option on their online site and it just means there is no chance of your card being blocked while over there. I’d imagine all other major banks have similar set up.

I work in this industry. Just something to consider.

Gavin McLaughlin takes us back to 2014 and the start of some magical European journeys with Stephen Kenny

ARCHIVES | Stephen Kenny European Football Interview | June 2014
Stephen Kenny will take charge of Dundalk FC for the 19th time in European competition — and the 41st time overall — when the Lilywhites face Levadia Tallinn in Thursday evening’s Europa League First Qualifying Round first leg tie in Estonia. It’s hard to believe, but just four years ago Kenny was preparing to lead the club into continental battle for the first time. Below is an interview from June 2014 where he spoke at length about his European nights at Longford, Bohemians and Derry City and where he described European football as the ‘pinnacle’ for League of Ireland clubs.

Assume Gannon comes back into the fold, with Hoare most likely to partner Gartland. Adorján to start? McGrath on the right again?
Personally would prefer to see a Cleary Hoare partnership as Gartland has made a good few errors at European level in the past few seasons. But I expect SK to go with experience.

It's actually Kenny's 21st game in charge of Dundalk in Europe

A line from Gavins interview with Stephen Kenny that really jumped at me was:

It remains the only European tie where Kenny has tasted defeat in both legs

referring to Rosenborg beating Stephen Kenny's Bohs team 1–0 in Phibsborough and 4–0 in Trondheim

That's the line up I am expecting SK to go for, although I am comfortable with with Gartland or Cleary partnering Hoare. Although Dan Cleary's performance have bee excellent, perhaps there has been a slight dip over the last 4-5 weeks. I don't think there is much between them.

More important is the attacking three behind Hoban. Assuming Michael Duffy is injury free a reprise of the selections and tactical set up against Cork would be likely to work well against a 4-4-2 lineup that Levedia are predicted to use

Main selection conundrums:

-Gannon/Hoare at RB
-Hoare, Garts or Cleary at CB
-Duffy if fit is nailed on, but other attacking midfielders/wingers to choose from between McGrath, Connolly and Adorjan.
-A few others possibly in the mix, but either not ready or not selected regularly.

I'd go:

Rogers
Gannon Garts* Hoare Massey
Benson Shields
McGrath Adorjan* Duffy
Hoban

*For me nothing betweem Clearly and Garts. Cleary has been excellent since he came in. Garts has the experience, but was lack of pace caught him out in Europe before, but against stronger opposition.
*I'd love to see Adorjan start. Could really stand out in Europe.
