Yes, that was a great goal but wasn't Hoare's free kick leading up to it an absolute beauty? I play it over and over.

Young Brazilian lad off to Newry, thought we had him signed up for the season, never saw him in the flesh but my Da said he was good in the EA games

He was full of endeavour. Maybe lacked a bit of end product. I thought he signed a contract extension with us?

It was reported last October that he had signed a new contract at Oriel Park

James Rogers posted something earlier that this move was 'a transfer'

I dont think Newry would have that much money to spend and there appears to be a good relationship between the clubs, so I'd imagine this was one of those 'mutual' agreement things that he could be allowed to move on.

Its interesting to note, almost all of the players who progressed from the youths to senior, this guy, Carlton, and maybe add in one who played first team a bit like Poynton, all moved on.

This is going to be some strong bench we'll have for 2019, as I'd say VP will def be looking for at least two more players.

The new underage leagues are a great development but the fact that there's still a massive gap after the 19s means that likes of Pablo, Georgie, Carlton etc basically have to move to get a decent whack of proper games a season somewhere as there's nothing for them outside of a couple of EA Sports Cup/ sub apps soon as they're too old for the 19s. Same is happening to all the top half premier clubs with lads too old for their 19s moving on down to other clubs in the prem and the first. Big issue will be there'll be lads who'll get lost in the shuffle to football in general.

I think if Georgie knew Skip was retiring he might have stuck around and hopefully would have gotten more games this season coming as we're definitely short in the 6 and 8 position now. Even with Chvedukas hopefully back this season we've him, Benson and Shields for the 6 and 8 position if we're going to keep playing 3 in the middle. Fats is a good option as an attacking MF in a three but not at 6 or 8. Forrester rumours not going away, I think we'll be looking at getting a centre mid and centre half in and possibly 1 other attacking wise.
Ian Foster: (On the expectations level at Dundalk): "That's why you want to be involved in management. If I don't do well I'll do my shopping in Newry!"

Ian Foster: Last seen heading for Newry.

Captain - unless Andy Boyle became available why add a centre half when we already have four specialist CB's plus Dane Massey?

I think we need 2 quality additions for 6 & 8 as a priority

I still think we need another defender and possibly a right full. Hoare can play there but Gannon has no natural competitor for his position compared to the two left backs we have.

Definitely need at least one more MF man. I think we are ok up front for now but Murray’s position being a non10 / striker will prob need to be looked at, maybe in the summer. Hopefully Georgie Kelly can have a big impact this season.

The big question this season is if Chevedukas will deliver. He has the talent. We need him to be fully fit and ‘at it’ from the start.

Hoare got player of the month playing right back. He's more than capable of playing there and performing well domestically

This is a conundrum we face in a few positions. Players that are excellent in the league just don't cut it in Europe. Finn, McMillan and O'Donnell found another couple of gears when it came to Europe. Duffy I thought stepped it up last year. But Hoban, Hoare, Cleary, Benson struggled.

Benson certainly contributed in 2016. But, assuming we can keep the show on the road and continue to dominate domestically, this is the big dilemma. It's not that to financially dominate the league and pick and choose our squad (certainly from outside the top 3), but it's such a massive step up to compile a squad that's going to compete like-for-like with AEK or Rosenborg or Dinamo Zagreb that you have to question whether it's worth the investment. You could quadruple the playing budget then one bad performance and one tough draw and you're out of Europe anyway.

Benson was excellent in 2016, but he had Finn and/or O'Donnell for company.
Agree with your post, its probably not worth the investment.
One possibility is to use the owners contacts to get some outstanding young players on loan, pay a fraction of the wages, and give them exposure to European football. I don't know how realistic this is though.
