David Sneyd appears to indicate that Gary Rogers has been offered a new contract, based on this line in his recent The 42 article
His success at Dundalk is not yet ready to be recognised with such mementos while there is still glory within reach, and as he weighs up a new contract offer he knows there could be even more good times ahead.

Some strong whispers around Oriel tonight that some contract re-signings are imminent

If the club are serious about pushing on in Europe, they have some big decisions to make now, if we resign the out of contract players, where is the space to bring in a higher caliber player from elsewhere?

With so many others on longer deals, it’s kinda hard to improve on the squad. Do you risk losing some good players to rivals by taking a gamble on some unknowns? I think it will be an interesting off season coming up.

Even where players are in contract it is still possible to move them on either with a mutual termination agreement or via a loan move; there may be some costs involved but that's just part of the overall costs involved of getting in better players who are likely to improve the squad. Possible examples are Brian Gartland, Dane Massey, John Mountney, Dylan Hand, Lido Lotefa, Ross Treacy and maybe even Georgie Kelly. Others like Stephen Folan will obviously not have their contracts renewed

What pool of players are available to us tho?

Unless we cast the net further a field to the likes of England I cant see any current LOI players improving the squad bar perhaps David Parkhouse who I previously mentioned. Ity was pointed out to me that many dont think he would improve the squad much which is a fair opinion but I think he is the only one who has the potential. There is a togetherness and some of the players mentioned above are part and parcel on implementing what the club is about (Massey, Gartland, Mountney etc). Granted some may be past their best and is not good enough to take the club to the next level. Gartland is an example of one player who I think should be kept around perhaps in a coach capacity similar to O Donnell, It would then create space to bring in another player. Then its who do you look to bring in. There is many players id love to see the club sign who could help us progress but in reality I cant think of any who would be willing to join the club.

On a side note, Is there any whispers etc on who the club are looking to take in.

Who is going to risk an Oriel Park ban with trophy celebrations looming?

There are dozens of players in the league who could strengthen the squad, making any kind of step up in Europe is a different thing though.

In an attempt to find a bakers dozen among other LoI division clubs, this is the best I could come up with

David Parkhouse
Ciaron Harkin
Jamie McDonagh
Daragh Leahy
Daniel Mandriou
Zach Elbouzedi
Romeo Parkes
Conor Kearns
Liam Scales
Jack Byrne
Graham Burke
Aaron McEneff
Sean Kavanagh

I think that there are very few of these who would actually improve the core squad and less, if any, who would improve the starting eleven.

We need a number 9 good enough for Europe, which is likely to be very expensive. We need good cover for Shields or ideally an improvement, and we might need a new left back.
A striker with real pace must be the priority, but also the most difficult to source and definitely the most expensive. But if the club is serious about creating a realistic chance of European progress this is the critical one.

Apart from another high quality DM (is there a Stephen O'Donnell clone anywhere?), another quality winger to provide alternatives to Michael Duffy would be excellent particularly if he could play either wing (has Michael Duffy ever played right wing?).

If Jamie McGrath or Robbie Benson do not re-sign for any reason, high quality replacements would also be needed

There is also a call to be made on whether Sean Murray and Jordan Flores are likely to discover the fitness and form that was hoped for originally.

I'm setting the bar at the like of Dan Kelly who strengthened the squad, and I'm saying strengthening the squad is a vastly different thing to stepping up in Europe.

I think romeo parks is a diamond in the rough... he's nearly on the same amount of league goals than hoban.. yet playing for a mid table team. I'd say our boys would have him in the 20s . And he is lightening quick.

El Paso...if you listened to Treacys pod cast you would have heard him say Andy Burton was helping them professionalise the club in all areas. His job is not only recommending players, moreso he is very much involved in getting the day to day things within the club to a professional level. He also recommends player and I have it from an ex player that no player is signed without Vinnys OK. Burton taps into his network, suggests players and Vinny says yes or no. At no time have the club said he is being paid by DFC and if anything he could very well also be on the Peak6 payroll working as a consultant for them as they have publically admitted they dont have a clue about the day to day things involved in running a club.
