Earlier than normal kick off will catch many people out.

While we will be strong favourites, UCD will fancy their chances as underdogs. If the team are not complacent, we should be too powerful for them.

FAI CUP SEMI-FINAL: DISCOUNT TICKETS

The next step in what is a huge week for Dundalk Football Club is the FAI Cup Semi-Final with UCD on Friday evening. The match at Oriel Park kicks off at the earlier time of 7.30pm.

We appreciate the magnificent support that the Club has received this season and we appreciate that it can be a costly exercise when there are many matches scheduled close together. Therefore, Dundalk FC have extended our FAI Cup ticketing promotion to Friday’s match.

Adult Tickets are €10 and juvenile tickets are just €5. Tickets are available online now from here>>

Nice gesture but do the FAI not set the ticket price for these games? Since the game is split do we need to give UCD a bigger % of the gate receipts?

I stand to be corrected but I believe the split is still 65/35 after the FAI''s 7.5%. If iagreement was a requirement, I would imagine that UCD would happy to agree to anything which increases their cheque. They are certainly far better off financially as we would hardly bring more than 500/600 to Belfield if the draw was the other way. Additionally, this is not a straight shoot-out. Replay (God forbid) on Monday in Belfield. There is also a precedence here. Have these prices not been the same for every round?

Good interview with Chris Shields by 98FM ahead of Friday's game.

Thankfully Robert Harvey (ref for Shamrock Rovers match) is confined to an additional assistant role and is hopefully limited in the influence he can have on the outcome

AFAIW the visiting team must agree to any changes from normal admission prices.

While reduced priced tickets will help the hard pressed supporter, it is highly questionable if it actually results in larger gate receipts.

Debatable, but nobody can accuse the club of not making an effort. (Correction ......can reasonably accuse......)

The club should be applauded for this and previous match ticket discounts. At a minimum it acknowledges the financial challenges involved in the fixture schedule.

There is never any way of conclusively proving whether discounting increases or reduces the match receipts, but there is no strong evidence from previous promotions that it attracts enough floaters to make it a financial success. The stand alone is likely to return about 6k - 7k less.

I think the club are right to do this, but UCD may have been hoodwinked into agreeing

Team news

Karolis Chvedukas is ruled out for the rest of the campaign after undergoing an ankle operation and Stephen O’Donnell remains out as he continues to recover from a broken leg.

Strong 11, team that started in Cork with Cleary in for Hoare who must be injured. Folan on the bench.

Sometimes it would be nice if we tried shooting.

Edit: I’m getting good at this!

Mountney’s defending and positioning is far superior to Connolly’s but his crossing has been as bad and his first touch pretty shocking
