Aviva again . Nov. 4th. One game away from “. The Double”, what an achievement. Well done SK. & the whole squad. Super strike by Patrick.

UCD are a lovely footballing team, but with no cutting edge.

If they can find a striker, they could make a mid-table impression next season

Did some people really argue that McEleney wasn't worth the reported 50 grand to re-sign him?

It's beginning to look like a steal.

They had a really good one, I wonder where he is now...

Watched on tv. There was a reason he was subbed first, not long after I posted that. I like John in the team more than the alternatives. But he was weak on the ball tonight.

Mountney did seem shattered after 60 mins, should have been subbed sooner, shields had a go at him for not chasing a ball only a few feet away. His touch in the second half was poor and crosses were just ok. He definitely brings more to the game than Connolly, more phyaical and better at getting the ball back than mcgrath, but not as skillful.

Perhaps not just Mountney but generally I thought the team looked somewhat jaded however, they did enough & deserved to win the game against a well organised UCD side.

MC Eleney's goal was worth the trip up to Oriel, a super strike.

It's great to be looking forward to yet another trip to the Aviva. We are enjoying some great times following Dundalk FC these recent years, long may it continue.

I agree with your comments.
I was a bit uneasy in the second half, was wishing for that second goal. Looking back on it, their keeper was excellent - and maybe a bit lucky on the odd occasion.

The reason they were jaded was due to UCD controlling most of midfield possession and making Dundalk work hard to close them down.

Listen to Patrick McEleney's interview on RTE and one of the first things he said about the game was that UCD "made us run a wee bit".

It may have been said in a understated manner, but that is a serious compliment to UCD.

Teams who don't have Dundalk's phsical fitness and quality on the bench would have been there for the taking by UCD in the last 30 minutes. That is the way they play and how they will win games next season.

This UCD will take some big scalps next season. If they can keep that squad together and get in a decent striker than they will have no trouble finishing mid table. It’s refreshing to see a team come to Oriel and try to play us at our own game. I genuinely thought they would fade away as the game went on, but full credit to them, they were pretty much still in the match till the final whistle.

I couldn't believe UCDs fitness last night. I expected them to fade badly in second half but they are possibly the fittest side we've faced domestically this season. Looks like a shrewd move nabbing their fitness coach now

MAC WITH A BANG Dundalk 1 UCD 0: Patrick McEleney magic keeps double dream alive for Lilywhites with FAI Cup semi-final win
The winger scored one of his trademark solo goals to send Stephen Kenny's men through to the decider
