Honestly, I'm not sure what Gary Rogers has to do to get the nod? Fewest goals conceded, potentially a record number of clean sheets. Pretty much faultless all year.

Ger Doherty and Shane Supple this past few years? Not for me.

I agree re Rogers . Baffling how he’s not on the team of the year.
I see after all our giving out , Benson still makes it in !!!!

Dundalk have conceded 19 league goals and has 2 defenders in the team. A Bohs defence that has conceded 44 league goals also have 2 players selected in the back five.

The oddity is certainly in the exclusion of Gary Rogers

Rodgers must be fuming with that number of clean sheets to be left out...and only two of are defenders is questionable. Leahy from bohs only had a couple good months as he missed most the season with injury. Not having them two selections

Same last year, McNulty had most clean sheets(i think) and Doherty got the nod.

Well, these are chosen by the other players so who are we to argue. Unless of course you take the view that some of them didn't feel comfortable giving 7/8/9 Dundalk players the nod and looked for places they could justifiably pick someone else.

Dundalk Player of the Year will not necessarily be the same result as the PFAI award although obviously same 3 players are likely to be in the top 3.

Gavin McLaughlin twitter poll after 381 votes case show this as the current state of play

54% - Chris Shields
34% - Patrick Hoban
12% - Michael Duffy

The 42.ie website poll has a different order

Patrick Hoban 54%
Chris Shields 24%
Michael Duffy 20%

I don't know who got the mission g 2% !

So we have to assume the majority of people that voted on Gavins poll are from town and that the 42.ie has a wider audience from outside town. Going on those results Hoban will get POTY but if the club ran a POTY for fans Sheilds would get it. I'd be happy with that. Any word of an end of year awards night for the club. Last one I reemeber was in 2014 when Sheilds won poty.

Soccer Republic team closest to what I'd personally pick. :

Rogers
Gannon-Gartland-Hoare-Leahy
Benson-Shields-Hery
Burke-Hoban-Duffy

No Cork players, which will provoke comment.

Update: Yeah, they're going a bit bonkers!

That's a decent team, but Sadlier has to be in it to be fair. I can't understand how Supple wad picked by so many others in various team of the years and the pfai one. It must have been the way he saved various shots as it couldn't have been for goals conceded which was 25 more than Rogers !

I'd have Sadlier over Burke and McLoughlin was very good. But couldn't vote against Garts or Hoare either. Don't see much else wrong with it. Cork fans would maybe choose Morrissey over Benson, and Benson was poor in large stretches, but the fact is Cork were mostly pretty dreadful from the break until the last few weeks.
