There is no obvious place to put this link, so this thread will have to play home to Neil O'Riordan's article about the different paths followed by Chris Shields and his brother Stephen
FILM SCRIPT Dundalk ace Chris Shields and screenwriter brother Stephen reflect on their journeys to success in their respective careers
Chris has been a key player for Dundalk's run of success while Stephen's movie The Hole In The Ground was released in cinemas after being featured at the Sundance film festival

Dundalk V Bohs on 22 March (Friday week) now postponed

@SSEAirtricityLg

Two @SSEAirtricityLg Premier Division fixtures have been postponed!

👉 @DundalkFC v @bfcdublin
👉 @UCDAFC v @CorkCityFC

Both fixtures have been postponed due to international call-ups. A new date for both fixtures will be announced in due course. #LOI

Presumably this is because of U-21 call ups for some Bohs players to be announced this afternoon

Derry V St Pats has already been postponed this weekend.

This will give Shamrock Rovers the chance to pull ahead in the table - they play Finn Harps away that weekend. Sligo at home to Waterford appears to be the only other remaining fixture that weekend

Leahy and Mandroiu called up from Bohs, while Scales and Farrugia called up from UCD. There seems to be some confusion as to whether Waterford have Drinan called up in addition to Elbouzedi. Presumably if Waterford have two call-ups, this could mean that Sligo V Waterford is also called off

There is a brilliant storey about Rome based Dundalk fan Giordano Pantosti building around this being played out on Twiiter

The Background
Giordano Pantosti‏ @GPantostweet

It happened. I just met @MikeTreacy here in Rome and had a one-hour talk with him about football, philosophy, politcs and much more... It's been awesome, you'll always be welcome! Hopefully more Dundalk fans will be present next time 😂

The Match Postponement
Giordano Pantosti‏ @GPantostweet

I've been waiting four years to go to Dundalk and attend a game, and just when I come the match is postponed... I don't have a clue what to do now, if coming to Dundalk anyway or stay in Dublin. I'd love to meet you all btw

LMFM interview
LMFM RADIO‏ @LMFMRADIO
Poor Giordano! ⚽ Listen to @GerryKellyLL on the Late Lunch after the 3pm news to hear how a 20 year old Roman football fan becomes a @DundalkFC supporter! And how some really bad luck has ruined his trip to see The Town in action. ⚽ @GPantostwee

Invitation to train with the team
James Rogers‏ @jamesdundalk

Vinny Perth has invited Italian fan Giordano Pantosti to come in and join the Dundalk squad for training and lunch. The Rome-based supporter had planned to visit Dundalk for the first time in 4 years to go to the Bohs game next week only for it to be postponed earlier today

That's a great story - well done all involved!

As for fixture postponements for U21 games maybe there's not a lot we can do about it, and it's good for players to be recognised. But it's a nonsense that clubs play six games in four weeks, then have a two week break, then three games in a week. Maybe Dundalk should offer to play the EA Sports Cup match against St Pats the night of the Bohs game?

Playing St Pats that night would probably make sense for both clubs as it would allow the opportunity to keep the first team players ticking over. If it is played on the original date, it will definitely be a second string team from both clubs - although that also serves a purpose in giving fringe players an opportunity

If we did get to switch I'd love to see a blend of mostly current first teamers with a couple of the new lads starting

Something like:
McCarey
Dummigan-Hoare-Cleary-Jarvis
McKee-Murray
Kelly-McGrath-Flores
Kelly

No way will the FAI agree to that.

Rovers and Finn Harps both wanted last weeks game on a Monday put back to later in season and were told No

Bohs match refixed for Monday 15th April
Sligo match moved back to Friday 12th April
EA Sports Cup match at Pat's is Monday 1st April

So between Friday 29th March and Friday 3rd May we have 10 matches in 35 days. Bananas. Utterly amazing that they haven't learned a single thing from last season. The season that ends in October is half over 9 weeks from today.

Bohs were dumb to take the postponement - their April will crush them.

That is some crazy schedule.

The second match in that 10 match series is the EA Sports Cup match, which gives VP the option of fielding a fringe team.

If you ignore that match for a moment, it leaves Friday night league fixtures only for the next 3 matches
Cork City (H) 29 March
St Pats (A) 5 April
Sligo (A) 12 April

before the midweek ones start to kick in where we go Mon / Fri for 3 successive weeks starting Mon 15 April

It's that period that presents the big challenges. With it being 4 weeks away, we must hope that our current injury situation is significantly improved by then
