Cobh Ramblers V Dundalk | Sat 10 Aug | 7pm | St Coleman's Park | FAI Cup Round 1

It will be a year to the day since we won 3-0 against Cobh Ramblers in the FAI Cup in Oriel Park when we face them away in the same round of the competition in the middle of the Europa League matches.

There are difficult decisions to be made around team selection - it's a tough one to find the balance between giving players rest and fielding a team that is likely to win through to the next round. We didn't get that balance right on our last visit to Cobh when we lost 0-1 in the EA Sports Cup just days before the FAI Cup win.

Opinions on how to get the balance right on team line-ups?

Like to see Dan Kelly played up front on his own. Something different to the target man football hoban and Georgie offer.
McCarey
Dummigan Garts Hoare Jarvis
Hand Mountney Mceleney Benson Duffy
Dan Kelly

I would play Duffy and mceleney as they are in dire need of a goal or something positive.

Difference between this year and last year is that we’ve been using the squad and most players are match fit. Last year we started Chvedukas in the middle.

I’d rotate as many as possible, and try a change of formation. Duffy looks like he needs a rest. Must be doing night feeds.

That team feels about right to me. A much more important game than EA semi last year. It might be a different 11 but we need a win to steady the ship and install confidence before Tuesday. Also to ensure we have another big day out in early November

Absolute wholesale changes are necessary.

Cobh, despite catching us a few years back should be dispatched appropriately.

If Benson is likely to be ready for Tuesday, giving him a run out from the bench on Saturday would be ideal.

Wholesale changes needed. If we lose we lose, it wouldn’t cost me a thought this year. Tuesday far, far more important.

Back to back doubles are notoriously hard to achieve. It might just be enough to stop people comparing the current side to 2016, or Vinnie Perth to Stephen Kenny.

As I said another double is lower on my list than winning the league and progressing in Europe. If the game was in Dublin it might be different but Cobh is a long haul considering all the KMs we’ve put in over the last fortnight

I'd play dummigan on left side of defence see how he goes with a view to Tues night.

Team news

Jordan Flores and Stephen Folan remain out with hip flexor and knee injuries respectively. Robbie Benson has an outside chance of making the squad after returning to training following his rib injury.

To be honest I'd be telling Vinny to stay in Dundalk with SO'D and a number of the players who won't play in Cobh to work on some tactical stuff for Tuesday. Gill can take the cup tie on his own.
