According to James Rogers on twitter, Sam Stanton will be signing, Will Patching will be returning in an effort to prove himself in pre season

That might be good news about Patching. He ticks every box in terms of his youth development and he's only 22. If we can't get a former Manchester City and England U17 performing on the pitch then I really wouldn't hold out much hope for bringing youths through to the first team from an academy of our own.

It seems to be more of an attitude/ confidence issue with Will. FG gave him a lot of praise after the Cobh game but he didn’t kick on and was sidelined. Hopefully things will change for him this season.

Every player is different and I don’t think we can compare Patching, who we had no control over his progress from say age 16 on , with players coming through our youth academy.

Absolutely, every player is different. Hopefully Stephen McDonnell will do a great job. I doubt McDonnell's academy would have done much more for Patching's progress than Manchester City's £200 million academy did, but I suppose we'll find that out if we ever sell them a player.

Stanton is available now, Towell not until July. I had a look at some stats on Stanton, haven't seen him play, but he played 75+ games for Dundee United who are a bigger club than us, and Hibs before that, so he has to be decent. I'd say he went to US for a $$$ contract. Seems the right age of 26 and the right position of attacking MF.

As much as we would all love to have Towell back, he will be 30 next birthday, plus heard his wage demands are over 150k a year plus bonus, and he'll be looking for a 2-3 year deal. That seems a lot of money, plus why would Salford be letting him go, like most of the others who return to Ireland, its rare they are the same player to when they left.

Now don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Towell back, but as much as we have the funds, we still need to be careful.

Confirmation of Colovic departure. If rumours are to be believed, it'll be a big chuck off the wage bill.

It was widely believed he was on ridiculous wages in comparison to the average higher earners.

We even got a fee. Seems good business done.

Yeah it’s good to get that kind of earner off the books if he’s not going to be the first name on the team sheet.

He’s been judged very harshly considering he got trapped in Ireland on his own in a four month lockdown then saw the manager who signed him fired and the new manager play him in heavily rotated sides. He never got a chance to settle into a position in the team.

My concern now would be that especially with 12 month contracts we’re signing lads from abroad who have to settle in a new country, who don’t know the league, yet will be expected to hit the ground running. It’s a big ask.
