Re: 2021 season General thread
Genuine question here but what are the advantages of a deal with PTSB? I get the ones with Rocksalt and the Ice cream shop but what benefits are there to a deal with a bank?

One and the most important is that they will pay for the pleasure......like any other sponsor.
Two, they may offer the club cheap credit lines...account fees.....overdrafts....
Three...they might advise players on how to get mortgages, investments, pension plans etc. over the line when playing LOI full time.
The list goes on....they are a partner (sponsor) like Rock Salt, Rolled Ice Cream.......Dundalk Credit Union......

The Pressbox Podcast saying that nobody is brushing and watering the pitch before games now. Harry used to do it apparently. The players hate when it’s not done as the pitch plays differently. In the latest programme notes ,there are 4 people named as ground staff. Is this not part of their job?!

The pitch has been visibly shit since the restart in August. Maybe Bill could send over a green keeper from his Florida country club?

Doubt it is up to Bill to get one of four people mentioned as ground staff to do the job.

Have we the correct equipment to keep the pitch up to scratch?

One would assume so. Its just attachments that are connected to the back of the small tractor. No reason to assume they have walked. Proper maintenance requires that it is aerated regularly; that should be done at least once a week. There is a pitch test done by the FAI in order for us to get a licence so someone must have done something to it. Could have been someone external I suppose. UEFA licencing is also due around now - albeit for only QR1 & QR2. I can't recall whether a second test is required.niall_hearty2000 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 4:32 pm Have we the correct equipment to keep the pitch up to scratch?
The ground staff might only be match night volunteers.

I have a sinking feeling this relates to a gag I've missed. On the off chance it's not, here's the man himself the night we hammered Limerick.niall_hearty2000 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 5:20 pmAgain have we the tractor?oldfogey wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 5:11 pmOne would assume so. The tractor belonged to Harry Taaffe I’m sure I read after his passing. Dunno if it’s still there or who inherited the keys.
The pitch test is a bounce test and a roll test. It has little reflection on how it plays. And it has been playing visibly badly since Harry passed. Doesn’t even look adequately watered.

I thought the tractor belonged to the club but it was Harry’s baby because he managed to keep it running even though it was falling apart. Maybe it has fallen apart now....

Re: 2021 season General thread
The media side of the club is fantastic. Bet Regal are giving us more money then any other sponsors in our history. We’ve seen a couple of commercial partnerships announced this week and the club are now advertising for players sponsors. So if these sides of the club are working well , whose job is it to look after the pitch?
The chairman said the JM was the boss or the Pope of Oriel when he was appointed . Is he responsible for getting the ground staff to do their job or is he in charge of player recruitment and sponsors? He’s only in the job a couple of months and he probably has had a lot of fires to put out.
Harry’s passing seems to have left a huge gap in the club in this regard and with regards to player welfare as well as he seemed to help out the players anyway he could.
Surely someone on the ground staff can use their own initiative to brush and water the pitch for the good of the players?
