Just to underline the opportunity we have passed up through mismanagement, we know already that our coefficient of 10.5 would see us in Pot 3 in the group stage if we'd got there

See quite a few rovers fans are calling for Hoare to be dropped after he had a Larnaca-esque performance against Flora

I think Sean Hoare is a good LOI player but struggled at the next level. Sean Gannon and Brian Gartland the same.
Gartland made some howlers In Europe that he wouldn't do playing in the League.

So Vitesse beat Anderlecht and Sheriff qualify for the Champions League. Dundalk would have been ranked 18th of 32 clubs in the groups if we'd made it.

Rovers embarrassing exit to a team lower in the Estonian league than the team we knocked out shows that they were there for the taking this season after losing McEneff and Byrne and still not having a decent striker.

What might have been and what an unforgivable mess we have made of this season.

The league is very poor this season and we are second last with the highest wage bill ever paid to a league of Ireland team. People will likely try to deflect and blame journalists, fans, players, managers the pitch or whatever but ultimately it's down to the owners that we are where we are now.

Having said that, if we were lucky enough to get the draw that Rovers did I'd be extremely confident that we would now be in the group stages. It prevents them from having an extra €3M+ in the kitty from prize money and associated earnings. Should Peak6 stick around and get their act together it might not be as challenging to bridge the gap as it could have been.

Going slightly off topic but something quite remarkable I noticed recently. In all our European history we've never lost to a really weak team. Obviously Celje, AEK Larnaca and even Honved, Levski and BATE were no world beaters but all come from proper professional leagues ranked above Ireland. We have a 100% success rate against teams from countries ranked below or around us.... Iceland 2, Latvia, Estonia 2, Moldova, Andorra, Lux 2, Malta, N Ireland, Faroes, Wales .... 13 out 13, that's incredible really

Great stats. We’re Ireland’s European elite and always have been.
