Dundalk v Waterford| League Series 33 | Fri 29 October 2021 ko 19.45

Post by oldfogey » Tue Oct 26, 2021 2:41 pm

Beling realistic, the last two games were against a side much further up the table and a win in either was wishful thinking.

Friday is different. Waterford are below us in the table and a decent home crowd should help lift the players. On the other hand, they have been treated like crap, and they will be playing for a future - or lack of it - that won't effect them. A win for us - and Rovers clinching the title - wipes out Waterford & Harps' games in hand and puts our fate back into our own hands. The bad news is that we are entering "fond farewell" territory. Anybody with a straight red won't play again. I also imagine there are a number of players close to either 5 or 8 yellow cards.

I don't understand the assertion that the current players are not being treated well. They are being paid ludicrously well relative to ability and performance.
Granted Gannon, Hoare etc were treated badly at the end, don't think the current crop have much to complain about

Maybe so OF, but fact remains, even if we do beat Waterford with the loss / their win last night, that would only put us 3 clear of them (call it 4 with GD) but they have a game in hand.

I think we might need to win 2 of the last 3 at home to stay clear of the play off, and one of them has to be on Friday, plus avoiding defeat to FH is another must.

What an abs mess we are in, and have been really since we came back in July 2020, save for two decent euro wins and the glorious FAI run and win last year, the league form in both seasons has been little less than a disgrace really. People forget in 2020 we were defending champions too.

We dont have fh mike. Our remaining games are waterford and then longford both at home then drogheda away and finally derry at home. Qyite frankly if we dont stay up with that run in, then we don't deserve to stay up.

I stand corrected Niall, you are indeed correct, Waterford, Longford and Derry all at home with Drogs away in between.

100% agree if we don't stay up getting points from these games, we abs don't deserve to.

Things could get pretty wild Friday night, especially if we're losing. Anger is building by the day, being stirred up on social media and Halloween always brings a bit of extra madness. Sparks could fly!

John McLaughlin is tomorrow night's referee, while Neil Doyle will be in charge of allocating seats in the stand.

Brian Murphy is suspended for Waterford.

I know its a bit cliché, but hope everybody in Oriel tonight gives massive support to the players. It feels like a little bit of the energy was sucked out because of the last two games against Pats, but since us fans came back to Oriel, its been rocking and clearly influencing games. And my god do we need a win tonight.

Should be 3 up but we will take the 1.. Waterford have been settling for a draw all half.

Thought we were very good again tonight. Took a while to get going with all the passes back to Cherrie but upped the tempo and should have been more comfortable in the end. Giving out about refs is boring now but that was a mad performance. Took a while to get an atmosphere going in the shed too unfortunately as a result of Jim’s hired goons.

Should have scored 5 or 6 tonight.. #11 Junior for Waterford ran rings round some of our players at times & the ref was very poor in my opinion.
Great to get the 3 points..Roll on Thursday..

Cameron dummigan was brilliant in defensive midfield role. Unfortunate night for hoban, should have had a hattrick.
Ref was bonkers. Lineswoman wasn't even watching the game.
Shed was mad. Enjoyed it.

I enjoyed that game more than some of the games when battling for league titles. Maybe a stint in the first Division may not be as bad after all....

Seriously though, really good performance tonight and I don't think 5-0 would have flattered us. Such a difference Cherrie has made since he has come in to the team. Few games sooner and who knows where we'd be.
