Better to finish a degree and have that security
Whelan already committed to Rovers by all accounts. Kerrigan heavily linked with a return to Sligo, came through their youth structure

Yeah he was strongly linked with Rovers, but was some talk that he would wait and join in July. He looks a really good player, might give them the cutting edge which they lack.

Doubt SO’D would come here with Europe and a 2nd place but if he did, we’d have to get another John Gill type ‘manager’ ?
I’m surprised he didn’t get on the Pro Licence course with Tim Clancy

Clancy will have a big rebuild if he's at Drogheda next season
@McDonnellDan

Four Drogheda United players have UK interest.
- Motherwell looking at Mark Doyle
- Hamilton in for Dan O'Reilly
- James Brown to train at Blackburn/Bristol Rovers
- Killian Phillips due to spend time with Crystal Palace U23 team

Of course, but they are part time and would haven't much of a budget. It might be more the reason for him to leave and join Dundalk or whoever..

He won't have the STATsports link at Drogheda.

Darren Cole released by Derry, he would be a decent replacement if Cleary goes

I still think Clancy will get the job but unfortunately the best players around the lge are snapped up or under contract by now, it will take a few seasons for Dundalk to be back in the mix imo.

feels like radio silence ? while I'm probably bias towards vp based on his record and kenny years, it feels like clancy would be there just for the sake of change .

If we're not going for vp ( all media , rogers/ dan x pros talking as if he'd already gone - poor form but thats the game )
we surely won't hire a manger with a less prestigious cv than the current one who ( from the newstalk clip from press box ) wants the job .

don't see why the new owners would take a risk on a less qualified manager . They are clever , and putting their own necks out on a spin of the wheel - when worse case scenario ,- if vp contract extension is not a glowing success you make a '' correction '' mid/next season and blame p6 left overs !
that is unless .. we're bringing in a big fish with serious LOI pedigree .... Pat F maybe ?

"It's unfortunate the club weren't in a position to maintain my role as the academy manager going forward and have let me go. It was a pleasure to not only work for Dundalk Fc but to play for them in the past too. I wish the new owners all the best of luck in the future."

Would seem to be that the academy was eating a good chunk of the budget. Disappointing that.

I’d say all financial focus will be on the 1st team for the foreseeable future. The academy, underage teams and the likes of the Ladies team might be surplus to requirements next season.

Unfortunately for licensing you have to run and maintain half a dozen underage sides. Im sure a lot of clubs would scrap them otherwise.

It's grand for rovers getting hand outs for an all encompassing academy that no-one else can compete with
