OFF THE BOYLE Walsall leading the chase to sign Ireland defender Andy Boyle on loan from Preston North End
Boyle has started just 10 league games for Preston since joining from Dundalk

One of the colourful characters among a madcap group that Sean Connor assembled, is interviewed by extratime:

Apparently a very good coach. Never forget the infamous mooning! Was that against bohs or pats?

If I recall correctly it was against his former club Pats.
Dundalk Fc. First Irish club to win points in group stages of a major European Competition.

Wasn't sure where to post, but got a text this am, that there was a feature on Jimmy Hasty, the famous one armed DFC striker of the 60's on the Ryan Tubridy radio show this am. You can listen back on the rte radio player, it was meant to be a lovely tribute.

McMillan cleaned out to win a penalty and off injured minutes after coming on as a sub. Attendance of 2800. TV money...

As far as I can see McEleney isn't even in Oldham's matchday squad.

El paso, I was looking at the exact same stats. It's mad when you think of it. Walsall for Boyle whose average attendance is around 4500. Hardly the stuff of dreams compared to oriel. TV money is definitely keeping most Scottish clubs alive.

Tv money also keeping the English PL teams in profit. Most PL teams now wouldn’t even cover weekly wages with gate receipts.

There was a mad stat last year, not sure what stage of the FA Cup cup but it was early rounds, anyway the prize money was worth more than the amount the fai allocate from the airtricity sponsorship deal for the league winners. Just for getting past one round !

Not ex Dundalk but ex Rovers and Sligo striker Pádraig Amond scored a nice header to put Newport 1-0 up V a strong spurs line up earlier.

All tv deals aside but is there another league under UEFA that the league winners get less than one (chief) executive officer of the national organisation.

Interesting question. Who's up for the research? I'd say mike

I’m still trying to find out how much airtricity pay the fai in sponsorship (confidential agreement of course) but would anyone be surprised if some of this was diverted to pay Delaneys salary?

Don’t forget O’neill is on between 1m & 1.5m per year. Just read that back again. 1 to 1.5m per year. Imagine what even 1/3 of that would do for additional prize money.

These are two examples of absolutely excessive and far too expensive salaries. We know Denis o Brien partly funds O’Neill’s salary but look at the amount of money leaving the game that could be invested back into league of Ireland. No wonder Delaney & O’Neill are best buddies. Big boys club. FAI have one priority. The national (senior men’s) team.

Mceleney couldn't even get off the bench in that milky mouse lower league cup last week for oldham. Most clubs playing their second strings!
