Richie Towell made a rare appearance for Brighton tonight in their EFL Cup tie against Barnet. Brighton fans typically gave him a 4 or 5 rating on their forum, with high praise being given to 18 years old Waterford teenager Jayson Molumb who made his senior debut for the club in their 1-0 win.

Meanwhile Daniel McDonnell name-checks some possible loan destinations for Richie

Blackburn, Burton Albion and Barnsley have emerged as possible destinations for Brighton's Richie Towell as he plots a loan move to kick-start his career in England.
The midfielder has been told he can spend the season elsewhere by his manager Chris Hughton and he does have the security of a new contract from the Premier League side.
He had planned to find a loan club in July but progress has been slow, although there have been a number of enquiries.

It's understood that Championship pair Burton Albion and Barnsley, and League One promotion-chasers Blackburn Rovers have expressed a tentative interest in Towell. Their divisional rivals MK Dons and Charlton are also in the frame.
Towell made just three appearances for Brighton's first team last term, with two of those coming in the FA Cup.

Ok... this makes zero sense. Given that Seanie got his move after scoring a s##t ton of goals, how does a lad with <25 starts think he's going to Burberry......Burty.... Burnley!

Seems to be a very odd move if this goes ahead, he has certainly not shown anything close to form that would warrant even securing a first team regular spot with Rovers never mind a move to England.

If it does go ahead, Dundalk should be due a payment on player development compensation.

It appears to be a season long loan - good move for Richie and it is his chance to prove himself in UK football

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Richie Towell has joined Rotherham United on loan until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old made just one Championship appearance for the Seagulls last term as they won automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Towell, who moved to the Amex Stadium in 2015, will now spend the 2017-18 campaign at New York Stadium as Rotherham bid for promotion back to the Championship.

"Richie wants to play regularly and this is an ideal opportunity for him to do that. It's a move that benefits all three parties: the player, ourselves and Rotherham," Brighton boss Chris Hughton told the club's official website.

"Richie is a great professional that always works hard in training, and this will provide him with the opportunity to play regular first-team matches."

Towell could make his debut for the club during Sunday's League One clash with Portsmouth.

It's looking like that deal will go ahead now with Michael O'connor moving from Rovers to Burnley. Good luck to him but I have to say I'm somewhat surprised all the same but they obviously see some potential.

We will surely be due a development free from the transfer?
