According to Nial Newberry in the Finn Harps match preview on extratime.ie Pat Hoban could match or surpass a long standing record shortly
MATCH FACTS

With 68 goals from 106 appearances, Patrick Hoban is now just a single goal away from equalling the legendary Joey Donnelly’s long-standing record haul of League of Ireland goals for Dundalk.

Congratulations to Pat Hoban for equalling Joey Donnelly's record today. Hopefully a new record to be set on Friday night against Shamrock Rovers

Thought Hoban played well today. His holdup play is immense and that brings in the rest of the team. He just needs a goal from open play to kick on

This really sneaked up... an extraordinary achievement for Patrick. In just over 3 seasons at the club he's Dundalk's (joint) highest league goal scorer. I've no doubt he'll find his scoring touch again soon. Wouldn't Friday night be a good time to surpass the great Joey Donnelly!

There was little fanfare when Patrick Hoban signed for Dundalk FC back in December 2012 but, just 109 league games later, he has staked a claim to be one of the club’s greatest ever players.

Good piece - it seems absolutely incredible to me that some supporters were giving him grief only a few weeks ago.

I expect Patrick Hoban will top the league goalscoring charts again this season and is could to set a club record that will not be beaten in our lifetimes

Mick McCarthy monitoring Patrick Hoban
McCarthy also admitted that he is keeping tabs on Pat Hoban, who is the current top scorer in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division with seven league goals from the opening 13 games of the season.

The Dundalk hitman was the league's top scorer in 2018 as his 29 goals helped the Lilywhites to yet another title, and McCarthy said that he would be monitored over the next few weeks.

Robbie Keane was in attendance on Friday night as Hoban's diving header gave Dundalk the lead against Shamrock Rovers, en route to a 2-1 victory over the league leaders.

"Patrick [Hoban] set a new record for Dundalk on Friday and we’ll be keeping an eye on him in the coming weeks," said McCarthy.

Interesting snippets from Daniel McDonnell in his Patrick Hoban article
Patrick Hoban still has ambitions of getting it right across the water, so Dundalk may face a job to hold on to him come the end of the season.
Dundalk travelled to Waterford yesterday to prepare for tonight's meeting at the RSC,
