Re: Pat Hoban
Pat Hoban just needs to stop this sort of talk and focus on scoring another 30 or 40 goals for Dundalk next season

Re: Pat Hoban
As much as it’s rare to go over to England twice like he did, I would say the chance of going three times are almost unheard of.
Would agree fully he needs to completely focus on career at home, and maybe a call up for Ireland. He wouldn’t do any worse than the current lot, that’s for sure.

Re: Pat Hoban
So the Hobantor ends the season with a stunning 29 league goals, a Premier Division era record (by a clear 4 goals) and the third best League of Ireland haul of all time.
1. 37 Jimmy Turnbull (1935-36, Cork)
2. 30 Jimmy Gauld (1954-55, Waterford)
3. 29 Patrick Hoban (2018, Dundalk)
Brendan Bradley (1975-76, Finn Harps)
Dan McCaffrey (1960-61, Drumcondra)
Paddy Bradshaw (1939-40, St James Gate)
Alec Hair (1930-31, Shelbourne)
I've got a lengthy record-breakers thread in the pipeline....

Re: Pat Hoban
Its unlikely that the Turnbull record will ever be beaten but one thing is for sure is that Cork fans were losing the plot that it seemed like beating Bradleys record was beating the overall record. Im sure if Turnball had been from Dublin they would have been just as concerned at highlighting the overall record was 37 goals in a season!!

It'll certainly be beaten sometime. Just need a perfect storm of scenarios.dell1 wrote:Its unlikely that the Turnbull record will ever be beaten but one thing is for sure is that Cork fans were losing the plot that it seemed like beating Bradleys record was beating the overall record. Player takes penalties and free kicks, player goes uninjured, player plays with a team that creates numerous chances etc.
In addition how many more goals would Hoban have scored this year if we had someone that could take a set piece like Darren Meenan could back in Hobans last stint with the club?

Re: Pat Hoban
I think it's time we resigned ourselves to the fact that none of our players, or any LOI player for that matter are going to get picked under the current ROI regime. It looks like Graham Burkes call ups were just a gesture or, the fact that his 2 caps were at the end of the season, that he was there to make up the numbers.
There's a stat doing the rounds on Twitter that both Glen Crowe and Jason Byrne got called in having scored less goals in those seasons and probably into squads that were more competitive and talented then the current one.

Re: Pat Hoban
Well he has faded away in recent months at Preston. Similar to Andy Boyle. At least Horgan and towel are showing form well as Ryan Manning who had not even got a call up (compared to Harry f***in Arter). Let's be realistic, LOI is a long way off the standard, especially for international football. But we are not scoring goals so I don't see why we can't throw a hoban in there and see what happens

Re: Pat Hoban
The thing about ‘standard’ is that Championship football in England and international football are chalk and cheese. Completely different games.

O'Neill has a cheek to talk about the standard of the league of Ireland while calling up lads from Southampton Reserves (a striker!!), Liverpool Reserves and Portsmouth.

Re: Pat Hoban
fcukin hell i use to admire martin oneill as a manager ,but by jasus that is gone out the window in a week were he should be congratulating dundalk players but no hes going around as if hes the kingpin of football .it must be the fact that a league of ireland team brought a game of football and atmosphere to the aviva that his band of green paddys couldnt in the last number of years ,the more i read his bullshit the more i think what an insulting bunch of wankers .and before the green paddy supporters come in and say they not up to level just look at the rubbish we have been putting up with in the last few years ,give them a run out and quit this englishleague status red tape rule to play for your country fculk delaney and the fai oops nearly forgot oneill

Re: Pat Hoban
Dundalk players would look bad in an O’Neill team, given the stark contrast in how he sends them out to play. Near polar opposite to Kenny. Can picture McEleney and Duffy chasing punts down the channels to no avail now. So they might be better off not involved as much as they’d love the honour.
I’d love to know how fit Hoban was on Sunday because old man Bennett was pretty comfortable wrapping him up. Don’t think you can play No. 9 at International level if you don’t have the pace to go with the strength.

Re: Pat Hoban
If Pat Hoban had Dylanesque pace to go with the rest of his qualities he would be a premier player and established international long ago.El Paso wrote:Don’t think you can play No. 9 at International level if you don’t have the pace to go with the strength.
