Thinking about next year now and where work is required:
Goalkeepers: Rogers, Sava
I'd look to release both and bring in a new number 1 and promote Kelly to the bench. Rogers is 36 in September and while he can be a good shot stopper he just concedes far too many and makes too many glaring errors in key matches... that knee first thing the other night...
Gannon, Barrett, Gartland, Vemmelund, Massey, Hoare
I'd be happy enough with that for the moment, but if a Boyle-esque player became available? Ryan Delaney at Cork made a massive, massive difference to them this season. But the issues we've had defensively have stemmed from problems in midfield, in my opinion.
O'Donnell, Benson, Shields, Clifford, Poynton
The number 1 problem area in my mind. O'Donnell is crocked and while I'd love to see him stay involved at the club, he needs to replaced by a dominating, tempo setting central midfielder on the pitch. He has been our heartbeat, but the team needs a heart transplant. Clifford has been THE big disappointment and will be released. Happy to keep the others. Would be great to think Poynton is able for the step up.
Duffy, McEleney, McGrath, Mountney, Connolly
I'd stick with that given the signing of Connolly. Duffy and McGrath will only improve with this season under their belts and a proper pre-season.
McMillan, Kilduff, Stewart, O'Connor
Second big problem area. Could see first three leaving, though hopefully McMillan will stay. Easier said than done, but we need another McMillan who has fewer quiet games. Don't think O'Connor is likely to make the step up yet.
There's only one word for that - magic darts...
