Bit of a gamble but he could have been worth it.

If that's the end of Kenny's signings and there is money remaining would love to see it going towards another full time member of staff.

Kenny did make reference in the Argus today about the age profile of players, those joining being 18,20,22,23 + 24, and some who left were close to or over 30. Shiels & Keane were 31, Meenan & Grimes were 30 (Grimes hasn't been officially mentioned as leaving before) he even mentioned Finn as 29.

He said there is room for one more signing, could be another no 10 or a wide player.

If the decision has been made not to re-sign Shane Grimes it is disappointing. Presumably the issue is his recovery from injury he suffered in the St Pats game towards the end of the season.

We maybe still be a bit limited in the wide areas.

Kinsella, Duffy and Mountney are probably the prime candidates for two positions, while McEleney has played on the right in some games and McGrath has been mentioned by SK as being versatile enough to play wide.

We are certainly not stronger in this area than last season

No harm to McCourt or SK but who paid for him (PmcC) to head over to Salou for training?.I need a holiday but i'll pay for it! Did he pay his own way or are we doing brown envelopes now here at DFC as favours?

I don't think Grimes is much of a loss to be honest. He disappointed in the few games he played. Carlton ubaezuonu is a bright prospect and just as good. But with Rodgers coming off injured again after been just back from one doesn't look good for the start of the season I don't think Sava is the answer.

We might be limited for options though if Massey gets injured. I'm not sure however on the recovery of Grimes injury. I always thought he was solid enough, definitely improved in latter stages of his career.

On the GK spots, I would have gone for a new keeper & made it a straight dog fight between him & Rogers. I'm not sure I saw enough in Sava to suggest he is a good replacement. He may have saved a peno v Zenit but that clearance was just awful that led to their equaliser, and that was the reason he was put in, mainly due to poor kicking from Rogers.

Overall though I'm very happy with the squad and I think most positions are stronger in terms of options than last season. We could do with another right sided man though, that might be the final signing. If he can find one.

The areas of weakness that were most obvious in the squad last season were
Goalkeeper
Right wing
Striker

None of these areas have been strengthened so far - my hope is that SK adds to the squad in the 2 outfield positions. Unless the Rogers injury is serious (unlikely) I can't see any new goalkeeper coming in at this stage.

It may still be the case that our squad will end up marginally stronger this season, even if our starting eleven may not be as potent

Seriously? They don't even play in the same position!!! When grimes went off injured against Pats and Carlton came on at LB he got absolutley roasted and was taken off then at HT

It appears that SK reckons Niclas Vemmelund can cover both full back positions and central defence, so that would make an additional left back specialist surplus to needs in the squad.

If Dane Massey maintains the fitness and form he has displayed over the last few years Shane Grimes (or any other left back) will not be missed. But to suggest that he has been poor or disappointing for Dundalk is a unfair and an injustice on a hugely committed player who turned down a number of attractive offers last season to contribute to his home town club.

He has never let the club or side down when called upon.

I never doubted his commitment to the club or said he was poor. I just ment that the cover that was brought in will make a difference for the better.

I respect that you have a different opinion, but I totally disagree with your assertion that Grimes was in any way disappointing - be that in his attitude, commitment or quality of play

Grimes has a fabulous game against UCD in the 1/4final of the cup last year. Got forward very well against the UCD rearline.

I would hate to think that Shanes time with the club is over as hes a great lad. What about his rehab, do the club make any contribution toward this given that his contract is probably up ?
Tomorrow is another day.
