I hope he does really well. His short spell at Dundalk gave him the kick up the backside he needed to get his career back on track.

Richie Towell's had his Brighton contract extended until 2019!

He will go on loan next season, understandably.

He has bags of talent and experience and at 29 years old must have plenty left in the tank.

Could Stephen Kenny Make A Swoop For Niall McGinn?

I really can't see SK dipping into the transfer market, certainly not for a winger. We have Duffy, McGrath, Kinsella, and Mountney, with people also talking about putting McEleney out on the wing. With CLQ2 on 11/12th July, there isn't sufficient time for a player to become familiar with the setup. Europe is the only reason you would take on new players, given the state of the league.

Lets be brutally honest, replacing one or two players will not solve anything. Every of that squad has it in them to play to a much higher level - both individually and as a team. If they rediscover their mojo then we get a decent run in Europe.

If we are talking about getting in new players just to make sure we finish second or third in the league, we might as well give up right now.

Cork interested in Hoban as per this link, also looking at Sadlier, these would be two ideal players for us to get in.

It would be a no brainier for Cork to get Hoban in, he'd be the perfect replacement for Maguire. So let's hope SK gets in there first and scuppers Caulfields plans !!

They're very different players and Cork would have to change their playing style you would think.

Theres no one out there like Sean. We're going to have to make changes no matter what option we go with.

David McMillan is the only decent striker at the club who has demonstrated some form. Patrick Hoban is a very obvious talent that would immediately strengthen the squad

I could see Kenny not signing anyone. Going by the post-Cork quotes he might just double down on his winter signings in the face of criticism. Bit like he did with Kilduff.

Interesting to see O'Connor leave Cork as well. Don't mind players moving on but going before you've even tasted League success that's pretty much in the bag? Bizarre to my mind

I think O'Connor is a part of the Maguire deal - giving them a decent deal on him to lets us keep Seani for a few weeks. The two lads are best friends too, live together, have travelled on holidays this week together and are inseparable. Bringing Kevin over with Sean is smart if it helps both players adjust to the Championship.

We also have a ready made replacement for O'Connor in Griffin who was signed on a 2 year deal at the start of the season. If you asked me last January who would be the first player to leave I would have told you O'Connor. Maguire has progressed much faster than anyone expected though.

He has said iirc that he has no plans to bring anyone in in July and as said he puts complete faith in his players even if some of us think it is misguided at times. I'd like to think though that if a no brainer signing became available then the manager and club wuld be pragmatic and take up an option of signing the likes of Hoban. Hoban did say in the past that he would only play for Dundalk in LoI but he has to take what is offered.
Now that the league is long done maybe there is a sense of cutting losses and not adding to the playing budget but with Europe and 3 cup competitions still on the go never mind thinking of next season already there shouldnt be an unwillingness to develop the squad and i dont think there will. There should be something of a gauntlet thrown down to some players and remind them they are playing for a contract for next season.
It has often been said that we see the true ability of signings in their second season with us so Hoare, McGrath and Duffy have shown what they can do and can work on consistancy.
Clifford still has bags of potential but he will be no more than a wasted potential unless he lifts his performances and puts himself in the frame as a natural successor for O'Donnell, i'd hope that O'Donnell has taken him under his wing!
Kilduff just hasnt worked out overall, scored important goals for sure but missed some important chances too (Legia and Tel Aviv stand out), maybe he is a good squad man and there is more to him than just a player that Kenny wants around but thats grasping at straws really. He has had his full preseason, injury free and run in the team now so there are no more real 'maybes' there.
Stewert hasnt shown anything much that I can think of!? He is neither and first 11 or an impact sub imo so one player that id be very surprised if kept on past November.
Vemmelund has shown enough both at right full and centre half - the main down side there is that he gives the impression anyway that he thinks he is a top class silky footballer, he is no Andy Boyle and should be more like Boyle by doing the job in an almost anonymous way.
The established squadmen have been a mixed bag. Massey's usual high level of performance has dipped, maybe he is missing the way Boyle organised things but he has missed even drifting in from left full to the centre to cover the centre backs when play is pulled to the right side, his passing hasnt been great and the chipping in with the odd goal too has gone at the moment but every player is too static and lax with movement and creating space for the fullback to exploit with a killer pass or to bomb forward, he needs proper competition for his starting spot.
McEleney really has gone off the boil and is the hardest to explain - maybe he has been marked out of games with not too much help from others especially when we were struggling with injuries.
Gannon has been decent and any issues he is having are team wide with players not showing for a pass or lack of movement/options again.
McMillan has been the bright light so far in that when he came back from injury we had more about us, he still can miss the easier chance and nail the spectacular but overall is the only man that can really run the line effectively as our system needs.
O'Donnell is starting to look like he has a lot of miles on the clock but he would be the last player you would write off as he is probably playing through niggling injuries. Benson is still getting back from injury really.
Barrett is effective if the right person is paired with him, Kenny seems to have a lot of faith in his passing and dead ball both of which are hit and miss tbh. Gartland while injured has looked like he has lost some confidence,, maybe due to losing Boyle beside him. Hoare will offer the pace beside him and some game time together could be a good partnership.
Sheilds has been one of the better performers regardless of the bit of stick he has been getting. He is always going to have that raw edge but he certainly cannot be faulted for effort where other players this season can.
Keepers we are where we are. Sava has had a few clangers when Rogers was injured so didnt take his chance to be No 1. Rogers hasnt been bad at all but still causes the heart rate to race on the terraces at times. Maybe Rogers needs to pick up some of the slack left by Boyle in marshalling the defence more - I dont think he is that vocal a keeper?
Lads out on loan - Poyntan has scored a few and is getting plenty of games under his belt, O'Connor has been unlucky with injuries - neither I think will be back in July but will be options for next season.

So short term if Hoban is looking for a club and we are struggling with our gameplan especially when McMillan is out or needs a break he should be seriously considered. Hopefully he hasnt been ruined by playing at a inferior level by not getting a fair crack of the whip especially at Oxford. Building his confidence is something that can happen at Dundalk and he shouldnt be looking for a premium wage until November and shows that he is the 2013/14 version. After that then extend his contract.
More medium/long term thinking, depth at left back is needed imo even with Grimes back from injury. A close eye on Clifford to see if he will cut it. A keeper in and Sava released. Kilfuff and Stewart to go hopefully with Hoban in and loanees back to cover attack After that it is rebuilding confidence and getting everyone hungry and fighting again I think. We dont look as sharp or as fit so if Grham Byrne isnt as available as much as previous season we need to find a way to get him back on board fully.
Cork are simply a well oiled and well drilled team that are driven by the runners-up label and 2 of their front men happen to be on fire. They have a serious battle for starting berths in midfield that we need. We are unlikely to be as bad with injury list again.
I dont think we have to do major work on the team or squad just some eh tinkering.

If someone offered to treble your salary (or more!) would you think twice? As well as the professional opportunity of playing in the Championship and potential Ireland call ups etc. Don't think there's a player in the league that would turn it down.
