Shamrock Rovers II

Yes, there are other things to discuss apart from Dundalk F.C. and feel free to discuss them here!

Shamrock Rovers II

Post by Wexford White » Sat Jan 11, 2020 11:31 am

Despite unanimous opposition from all First Division clubs Shamrock Rovers II has been foisted on them.
Now this Rovers team will play in but cannot win the First Division and cannot gain promotion and cannot enter the Cup.
What sort of an impact will this have on the promotion/relegation play offs? And on already paltry attendances?
Will we see a Pats II or a Bohs II in the First Division next year? And I see Vinnie Perth is not against the idea either.
But I believe this action has trivialised the First Division. If B or II teams are to play why not have them play in a B or II league?
Is this the new FAI? The dictatorial attitude would suggest no change.

Think its a case of looking after friends and family before change comes in.....remember when thr FAI were withholding our Euro money JD was organising in the background for Tallaght to be extended and Dalymount to be revamped.
1. According to reports after JD/FAI problems became public, it was reported that Rovers CEO went in and out of Abbottstown and was friendly with the board. Friend of JD and co....new ground, first division football
2. Munster FA get a whopping amount of money to improve facilities......Hon. President and Sec. both have a surename the same as the great JD.....

I love a good conspiracy theory, but they need to be founded in a little bit of realism

Shamrock Rovers B are being accepted into the first division because there is no one else to fill the vacancy caused by Limericks exit

Rovers lost about as much money as we did last season, they just hid it by splitting it between first team and youth academy. Now if a club is not in a position to run at a profit or close to a profit the FAI should be doing all in their power to prevent that club from slipping further into debt by getting ideas of a B team which will add little or no income to the club. That would be in line with corporate governance that the FAI are promising to implement.

What happens if one of the following comes up;
1. Pats, Dundalk, Bohs, Cork and Derry all roll up at the FAI this year and say we want to add B teams to the first division next season....
2. First division clubs refuse to play them or go to court to get rid of them??

Reading today's Independent it appears that a boycott of the Rovers second team is a strong possibility.
