FAI face Kenny succession dilemma after fresh delay

The almost certain postponement of the Euro 2020 play-offs until after Stephen Kenny is due to take over from Mick McCarthy as Republic of Ireland manager gives the FAI a major headache, writes Tony O'Donoghue.

Just been installed as Irish manager with immediate effect. Possibly a little harsh on Big Mick who has been a tremendous ambassador for Irish football from his Captain Fantastic days to both terms as national team manager. Should he have been allowed finish the Euro 2021 campaign seeing as we are in the playoffs? Imho he deserved to remain til our campaign ended. But welcome aboard Stephen Kenny who wouldn't have been Irish manager only somebody drove to Donegal and took the punt.. The rest as they say is history.

If Stephen Kenny was holding a contract with an August start date, the notion of this contract being easily set aside was always a non runner

Eoin Hand suggesting that Stephen Kenny living in Blackrock will be an advantage to him

Maybe he means because he is adjacent to Gerry Malone?

Joe Carroll in the Demo is seriously deluded about his own importance

My sparring partner of a few years ago, Stephen Kenny, has, as is well known by now, been taken in from the wings to become manager of the Republic of Ireland soccer side. There’s no need any more for the ‘in-waiting’ prefix. The very best of luck to him.

In his time as boss at Oriel Park, Kenny supported Damien Duff – who he has included on his International sideline team – when the former Chelsea player likened the GAA hierarchy to ‘dinosaurs’ during the controversy over the Páirc Uí Chaoimh/Liam Miller testimonial. I felt he needed to be taken on, and was willing to go toe-to-toe for as long as he liked. Stephen didn’t come out for the second round.
