Bray Wanderers
Not a nice time to be a Bray fan at the moment i'd say. After the good news of new ownership this mess pops up. Whistleblowers speaking up as a new owner arrives always raises the question of motivation of the whistles blowers imo - upstanding citizens or disgruntled and ousted? Either way there is a case to be answered it seems and the new sponsors wont like being associated with this bad news story.

Wasnt the problems with Shamrock Rovers finishing Tallaght themselves at least partly to do with grant money redirected to the playing budget or was that the Bohs version of things?

Re: Bray Wanderers
Quite possibly the ony solace for Bray fans. It is going to boil down to the legitimacy of 400k of invoices and maybe whether a surveyor would assess that there is a shortfall of €400k worth of work was done or not done more to the point. To prevent this type of thing which is open to abuse the Dept of Sport should be invoiced and pay out of the grant rather than handing the grant over and relying on the club to use it corretly. If for example a club was owned by somone in the construction business and recieved a capital grant they could essentially be paying themselves, billing at a higher level than what may actually be spent. Of course it could also mean that the grant could be stretched to do more work if the building constructor wasnt seeking profit on works. Either way a scarce resource is being mispent and the way of allocating needs to be addressed.dieseldlk wrote: in the mail.

Re: Bray Wanderers
The more human face to the farce that was Bray last season is that a lot of their players are waiting months for wages with no response from club Darren Quigley and Gary Dempsey being very critical of no response from club or help from FAI

Re: Bray Wanderers
The PFAI were quick enough to pass comment on the Chad Evans debacle. Surely they should be dealing with the player wages issue, making representation to the FAI and calling in to question the licencing process! To lose Bray would be a blow to the league but arguably if the facts are proven as suggested then it is a greater offence than dual contract Derry. I'd still like to hear what the retrospective story on Rovers Tallaght grants is.

Re: Bray Wanderers
The exact opposite I would suggest - the Sports Capital Grant in that case was circa €250k.Johnny Guitar wrote:dell wrote:Quite possibly the ony solace for Bray fans. There have been many outlandish claims made about GM and the YDC - but none that suggests that less then €250k was spent on the building

Re: Bray Wanderers
Darren Quigley is owed €6k by Bray from 2013 and the FAI and PFAI are refusing to get involved.

Re: Bray Wanderers
He should sue the FAI for the 6k for contravening their own licence requirements and letting Bray continue in the League. They would be quick enough getting on to Bray then to get it sorted.

Re: Bray Wanderers
If Quigley has made a legitimate official claim then it has to be dealt with. According to the licensing requirements any outstanding debts due to players, management, other football clubs/leagues, or the revenue, must be covered by an agreed payment plan. It's not unheard of for former managers/players to suddenly make a claim 3 or 4 weeks before licences are awarded in the hope the club won't dispute it. (I'm not implying that's what's happened here as I have no knowledge at all of what's involved)

Re: Bray Wanderers
I see Bray are about to appoint Trevor Croly as their new manager so their troubles will soon be over.
I wonder..........

Re: Bray Wanderers
Its possible that he could do an ok job there. He is supposedly a good coach if not a great manager but with the type of squad they have that might be ok. They will probably be looking at young players with a limited budget, especially if the take over fails, so would suit Croly. I'd be a little worried by reports of a 2-3 year contract on what is a bit of a gamble. Athlone are managerless too as are Waterford; Cobh recently reappointed Henderson and with Heary and Hutton to a lesser extent under pressure there is/will be plenty of movement of managers.
