Sean Maguire

Postby Wexford White » Mon Dec 05, 2016 6:15 pm

I heard on the news that Sean Maguire has re-signed for Cork despite several offers from England.
Anybody. know who was interested in him?
I hope this is a sign of things to come and our own talented players elect to stay with us

If there was the slightest bit of interest in maguire he would of been over before the ink dried on the contract

How many of his goals were penalties? If it was a high enough percentage then he is not necessarily as prolific of a striker as is said about him. English clubs would be looking at each goal.

Don't think there was much interest in him from England at all. At least no one willing to offer the sort of contract that would make him want to move. Lot of guff about Maguire this season. Scored fewer League goals than McMillan if you discount the penalties. Scored hardly any goals away from home all year, and hardly scored all summer. The hat-trick in the 5-0 tonking of Rovers' kids in the Cup on TV coloured a lot of the coverage of him.

Before the start of pre-season you'll hear a lot about how Cork 'improved' when actually their away record was notably worse than the previous two seasons. and next year they have one fewer home game again, and six trips to Dublin instead of three.
There's only one word for that - magic darts...

Maguire has had a good season and will be a threat for Cork in 2017

Is he better than Kilduff?

2 different types of players.

Prior to maguire leaving us he wanted a guaranantee of 1st team football for 2016. SK wouldn't guarantee that.

I don't think it had been mentioned but I remember hearing at the time his attitude completely stank when he wasn't playing and also he didn't mix well with his teammates and constantly spoke about getting back to England. If a player isn't willing to be part of a team that can do more harm than good.

Maybe cork was the team for him and JC was able to build a team around him.

At the end of the day if he isn't willing to fight for a place with us and opts for a lesser side where he is the big fish well good luck to him

5 league penalties and 3 in Europe. 21 non penalty goals.

By the way Towell got 7 penalties in the league in 2015.

Also, is the same guy who said he'd rather win nothing and play, than be a bit player and win stuff!!
