Dundalk V Bray Wanderers | Fri 16 Feb | 7.45pm | Oriel Park
While there is still 5 days to go before the league kick off it seems we may be missing a few:
Sean Hoare - out with a hamstring injury
Stephen O'Donnell - a few weeks away
John Mountney - out
Sean Gannon - ?
Flu hit
Chvedukas
Benson
Adorjan
Gartland
Jarvis

If we're missing all those that's a horrendous start. No spine at all.

Interesting revelation that Adorjan has the flu. He played 90 minutes of professional football on wednesday evening, so must have caught the flu at the earliest while in bed wednesday night. Recovering from the flu in the space of 3 days to the point when you are fit enough to start a professional football match would be nothing short of miraculous (i caught the flu on 2nd/3rd Feb, and am only now getting back to 100%).Ezeikial wrote:While there is still 5 days to go before the league kick off it seems we may be missing a few:

Either:
1 - he didnt have the flu, but this is just the usual "oh i had a bit of a flu" talk that you hear from people who miss work for 1 day and clearly just had a cold; or
2 - he actually did have the flu, but was lucky enough to make a very speedy recovery, and then 5 days before the start of the season, his manager decided that, rather then letting him rest up for an extra day or 2 to get his energy levels back (even if it meant playing an U-19 instead), he would send him out to run around in arctic conditions for what is essentially a friendly.
Either option seems baffling to me.

People are always calling bad head colds the flu. A bad head cold is enough to screw you up in an office never mind playing professional football. But real flu would leave you bedridden.
Also the incubation period for flu averages two days, so if it was flu and he felt it on Thursday he would have caught it Monday or Tuesday.
Lastly even people who get vaccinated can get the flu just with less severe symptoms.
Pretty obvious from our line-up and subs bench that something was amiss.

Ya, not doubting the lad was unwell. It's just something that p***es me off every winter. As you say, a bad head cold can be tough going. You dont have to call it the flu - if you tell me you have a bad head cold and cant make it to the office, i'll take your word for it.El Paso wrote:People are always calling bad head colds the flu. It is obviously not the flu. Anyone who has had the flu knows that you can hardly get out of bed.
However, the word "flu" is used as a euphemism for a heavy cold/chest infection.

Obviously fitness and illness will dictate what the line-up is for the league opener. This is my guess

I reckon he’ll start Benson ahead of Chevducas. Or maybe Chvedukas ahead of ShieldsEzeikial wrote:Obviously fitness and illness will dictate what the line-up is for the league opener. This is my guess

I hope not, I'm probably in the minority but by the end of last season I had become increasingly frustrated with Benson, for me he slows the game down too much by turning back, looks like that will continue if Sunday is anything to go by. He needs to push on this season, take more control in games and drive the team forwardMartin Lawlor80 wrote:I reckon he’ll start Benson ahead of Chevducas. I don't think you are alone. Benson ended the season very poorly. He looked very sluggish and weak on Sunday, which I suspect was due to the virus he was recovering from.magarnagle wrote:I hope not, I'm probably in the minority but by the end of last season I had become increasingly frustrated with Benson, for me he slows the game down too much by turning back, looks like that will continue if Sunday is anything to go by. He needs to push on this year in the way you describe.

Just had a look at the gallery from today’s training. I can’t see Gartland, Chvedukas or Gannon. Doesn’t look good to me. Maybe somebody else can spot them or does anybody know their status?
