With two consecutive big wins under our belts we will travel to Derry full of optimism and looking to book a place in the quarter finals.

Derry top scorer David Parkhouse is suspended.

With Robbie Benson back in training and others finding good form, it might be difficult for VP to choose his starting eleven. Roll on Friday!

Vinny Perth says he doesn't want to talk about trebles, but wants to focus on the match in the Brandywell on Friday

Striker Hoban — who has 18 goals in all competitions this season after his four-goal haul on Monday — makes no bones about the fact that the Treble is the ambition.

He said: “It’s an aim since the start of the season.

“It’s an aim we put out there. Everyone wants to try and achieve the Treble.

“With Europe gone unfortunately, we can focus on that. It’s one step closer to achieving our goal.”

Midfielder Patrick McEleney said the same in the build-up to the semi-final with Bohs.

But boss Perth hates any talk of it — he will not even use the word ‘Treble’.

The gaffer added: “I’ve seen one or two pieces and nearly lynched the lads over it. It’s too early to be talking about that.

“We genuinely don’t talk about it, there is too much to play for.

“If we’re going to be successful in the cups, we’ve got to play Derry twice, and they’re a good side.

Derry City’s Declan Devine hoping for FAI cup shock

Derry City manager Declan Devine believes knocking holders, Dundalk out of the Extra.ie FAI Cup tonight, would represent a huge upset for the Brandywell club.

The Oriel Park men have only tasted defeat twice domestically this season and are aiming for their fifth Aviva Stadium final in succession.

“We want to have no regrets coming off the pitch and if we can do that, then we could potentially cause a huge upset and that’s what it would be,” insisted Devine.

“Let’s be honest, we finished eighth last year, they won the double.

“They have the best players in every position, sometimes twice/three times over, so for us to do anything it’s going to be an upset, we have to upset them.”

Vinny Perth’s men go into the tie following an empathic EA Sports Cup semi-final victory over Bohemians on Monday with striker Pat Hoban scoring a quick fire hat-trick in the opening 14 minutes to end the tie and book their place against the Candy Stripes in next month’s final at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium, on Saturday, September 14.

Despite their impressive form, Devine says his players will give everything and believes with a bit of luck they could become the first side to defeat the Lilywhites in the FAI Cup since Cork City’s penalty shoot-out success in the 2017 final.

“We have to make sure we perform at our highest levels but that’s what the players have done over a period of time now.

“The players have been very respectful in their approach to every team. They have been very good with the football and very good without it.

“As I said, we have to make sure that when we come off the pitch after the game that we know we have left everything on the pitch. If we can do that, then hopefully we can get a favourable result.”

Massive game tonight. Long distance away match to the 3rd or 4th best team in the country, and Derry have held us to 2-2 twice already this season. We'll have to be in top form, there'll be no resting players ahead of UCD in the league

McEleney on the bench, strange one for me. Also Cleary in for Boyle. With UCD twice our next 2 games, surely this was the one tonight to go full strength?

Derry doing it to again, we have all the chances, don’t take them and we cough up two equalisers.

Hoban taken off at 109' Thats the kind of things that a good manager doesnt do... Either u take him off earlier or dont do it at all, ffs he is the penalty taker!

Who did. Georgie the bloody man!

Have to say, foyle radio coverage was great. Very good commentators.

To edit my post... Is this the same pat Hoban penalty taker that blasted the ball straight down the middle against slovan Bratislava's keeper you're on about?

A vindicated substitution.
